Israel Bond leaders confer
Atlanta Israel Bond Chairman
Burton Gold will head a delegation
of Georgia and South Carolina
Bond leaders at the 1979 Israel
Bond International Leadership
Conference to be held in Toronto,
Canada, Sept. 13-16.
This conference is the second
phase in the launching of Israel's
Economic Development for Peace
Bond—the first was held last
month at the Israel Bond Prime
Minister’s Mission in Israel. Dr.
William E. Schatten, Atlanta
Prime Minister's president, was
Georgia’s representative.
Participating in the conference
will be Atlantan's Marvin L. and
Amy Singer, Dr. Marvin C.
Goldstein, and Charles and Leslie
Lowenstein. Other delegates
include Macon Israel Bond
Chairman Arnold Cotton and
Mrs. Cotton, Mr. and Mrs. Morris
Gordon also of Macon, and Dr.
and Mrs. Sol Neidich of Beaufort,
Atlanta ORT sponsors
art exhibit and auction
The Atlanta Region of Women’s
American ORT will sponsor its
annual art exhibit and auction
beginning at 8 p m., Saturday,
Sept. 15, at the Standard Club
Marlin Art Gallery of New York
will present works by artists such
as Dali, l.ieberman, Rosenthal
Calder, Miro, and Lebadang. The
preview will begin at 8 p m.,
followed by the auction at 9 p m.
Beverly Aaron and Linda
Miller, Atlanta Region chairmen,
are the evenings coordinators
Proceeds will benefit the ORT
School of Engineering in
Jerusalem and ORT health
projects.
Admission is free and there will
be a cash bar. For more

committee meeting
Atlanta Post No. 112, Jewish
War Veterans will hold its
executive committee meeting at
8:15 p.m., Monday, Sept. 10, at the
Post Home, 3840 Roswell Road,

Conference participants will
hear an address by Abba Eban,
and will attend a private preview of
Verdi’s “Simon Boccanegra,”
performed by the Canadian Opera
Company. The premier of a new
film narrated by Ed Asner, “The
Price of Peace,” will also be shown.
The Jewish National Fund will
hold its monthly board meeting at
7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 12, at the
JNF office.
The meeting will conclude in
time for members to participate at
Mizrachi Women plan
Education Day program
The Atlanta Chapter, American
Mizrachi Women will hold its
Education Day program from 11
a.m.-2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 18, at
the home of Hannah Robkin, 1209
Arborvista Drive, N.E. A
luncheon will be served at 12:15
p.m.
The guest speaker will be Yuval
Metser, Israel consul for
information.

the canteen which opens Sunday,
Sept. 9, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at
the AJCC. A cake sale will be held

JNF meeting set for Sept. 2
Dr. Barban directs AJCC School of Music
The School of Music of the
Atlanta Jewish Community
Center recently appointed pianist
Dr. Eugene Barban as its new
director. He succeeds Paula
Gorelkin.
Dr. Barban, who has performed
in concert at Carnegie Hall, is the
recipient of a Fulbright
Scholarship and a Ford Grant as
well as numerous other honors. He
holds a doctorate in musical arts
from the University of Cincinnati
College Conservatory and a
master’s degree from Ohio
University. His piano studies
include work with Carl Seemann
Dr. Barban
in Freiburg, Germany.
He previously taught piano at
Interlochen, Depauw University,
Concord College, the University of
Cincinnati, and Winthrop College.
Students, parents, and the
musical community are invited to
meet with Dr. Barban at the
School of Music registration
session which will be held from 1-4
p.m., Thursday, Sept. 13, at the
Hebrew Academy. Classes for
adults and children as well as
private instruction in orchestra
instruments including Suzuki
violin, guitar, piano and voice, are
available to the public.
