Steven Ettinger. son of Rabbi
and Mrs. Zvi Ettinger of Dalton.
Ga., has been awarded for the
second consecutive year the Dr.
Samuel Belkin Scholarship at
Yeshiva University in New York
A graduate of Yeshiva High
School, Steven spent the 1978 year
in Israel studying at the Yeshiva
Chofitz Chaim. He is currently a
student in the Semicha program of
Yeshiva University and is pursuing
his secular degree in accounting at
the university. Steven has made the
dean's list with highest honors
haring achieved a 3.93 average
over the past two semesters.
Steven attended Dalton Junior
College and made dean's list with a
4.0 average during the two
previous summers. He is a feature
writer for the college annual and
business editor, feature writer and
book reviewer for the college
newspaper. He is a member of the
pre-law society, economics society
and a member of the student
council.

Pope John Paul II greets Dr. Gerson D. Cohen, chancellor of
the Jewish Theological Seminary of America at a private audience
accorded the Jewish leader in Rome during the summer. The Pope
bestowed the Papal Medal on Dr. Cohen; the chancellor presented
to the Pontiff a facsimile leaf from an edition of the Talmud which
the seminary will publish shortly.
Dr. Cohen was in Italy for the filming of the television special.
“A Talent for I.ife—Jews of the Italian Renaissance." The
program, second in the Eternal Light Jewish Civilization Series,
will be aired on WSB-750 AM in early December. ,

C PA, Isaac N. Ilahif has retired
from the certified accounting
firm of Habif, Arogeti and
Wynne, P.C. and entered the
practice of law with his son,
Leonard Ilahif, and Lenny
E ranco.
Habif founded the account
ing firm in 1951. He is presently
a member of the Dekalb
Planning Commission.

The pair, bona fide American
buffalos, are a gift from the city
of Buffalo, N Y , to the Israeli
town of Kiryat Gat, its sister
community of 29,000. Supplied
by the U S. Fish and Wildfire
Service, the animals are the first
bison to be brought to the
Middle East. They will be
placed on display at the zoo
where it is hoped they will
eventually breed.
Max and Helen Benkel of
Brooklyn announce the birth of a
daughter. Samantha Lauren, on
Sept. 24. Mrs. Benkel is the former
Helen Bromberg of Atlanta.

J.L. “Jake” Goldstein of
Milledgeville, Ga., has been
appointed by Governor George
Busbee to serve as chairperson of
the Oconee Employment and
Training Council. The purpose of
this council is the implementation
of employment and training
programs which serve the
economically disadvantaged, the
unemployed and the underem
ployed of Georgia. The Oconee
area is comprised of six middle
Georgia counties.
Goldstein is a partner in
Goldstein's Department Store and
vice president of First Federal
Saving and Loan Association of
Milledgeville.
He is married to the former
Maxine Shapiro of Augusta.
Ben Gross of Atlanta has been
elected treasurer of the Home
Builder’s Association of Georgia.

Dr. Michael E. Kotzin has
joined ADL’s Southeastern
regional staff in Atlanta as
community consultant
A native of Chicago. Dr. Kotzin
received his M A. and Ph D. in
English at the University of
Minnesota. Between 1968 and
1978 (with time out for a year
sabbatical in the U S ), Dr Kotzin
was a lecturer and senior teacher at
Tel Aviv University in Israel. He
also served in the Israel Defense
Forces.
As chairman of the university's
committee on admissions for seven
years, he reorganized and
supervised the admissions
procedures. He also planned
curriculum, initiated and
organized faculty seminars, and
served on the steering committee
of the TAU Overseas Students
Jewish Home residents Hedwick Baer, Adele Zelinka, Abraham
E'raidlin and Harry Sternberg double as actors as they present a
play honoring Herbert Cohen.
