Jewish Home president is first woman
and fills position once held by her father
For Mrs. Bernard Howard, the
28th annual meeting of the Jewish
Home on Sept. 17 was a time for
remaining faithful to family
tradition while ushering in a new
era at the Home.
On that date she was installed as
the first woman president of the
Jewish Home, becoming the second
member of her family to serve as
president. Her father, the late
Frank (iarson, was the founding
president of the Jewish Home.
Herbert Cohen, immediate past
president, presided at the meeting,
which was dedicated to the late
George Landsman, executive
director. Max Rittenbaum,
president of the Atlanta Jewish
Federation, extended greetings
from the Federation to the over
250 people in attendance.
Abraham Fraidlin, president of
the Home’s Residents’ Council,
spoke briefly.
Joseph Cuba, a past president of
the Home, was the installing

In addition to Mrs. Asher, Mary Dwoskin
officer.
Howard the other officers
installed include Harold Ellman,
Sidney Feldman, and Dr. Harold
Friedman, vice presidents; Phyllis
Solomon, secretary; Roger Kahn,
treasurer; Meyer L. Balser, M
William Breman, Herbert Cohen,
Joseph Cuba, and Abe Goldstein,
honorary presidents.
Elected to three-year terms as
members of the board were Joseph

appointed to one-year terms
The program included a play
performed by residents of the
Home in honor of Herbert Cohen.
Cohen received a plaque and gavel
as gifts for his outstanding service
and devotion as president.
Esther Friedman and Belle
Rosenfeld were recognized for
their 25 years of service to the
Home by Mrs. Nathan Becker,
president of the Jewish Home
Volunteer Corps.
The meeting also enabled Roger
Kahn, the newly installed
treasurer, to continue the tradition
established by his father, the late
May E. Kahn, who had also served
'as treasurer of the Jewish Home.
