Federation forms new high level committee In order to emphasize the significance of its annual campaign and to assure campaign leadership of the support of the board, a Campaign Policy and Planning Committee has been established by the Atlanta Jewish Federation. The purpose of the standing committee is to set overall policy for the annual Federation campaign. As a policy making committee, it will set community policy for all activities related to the annual campaign such as a campaign calendar, multiple appeals for beneficiary agencies, community missions to Israel, goal setting and the selection of campaign leadership. This committee is also charged with promoting the widest possible community understand ing of the needs of the campaign and understanding of Federation's role in raising funds which support national and overseas programs, especially those in Israel, through the Uhited Jewish Appeal. The Policy and Planning Committee, which functions at the highest level, is chaired by the vice president of campaign and allocations, Dr. Marvin Goldstein, and will report directly to the board of directors of the Federation I he day-to-day activities will be implemented by the campaign leadership selected by the policy and Planning Committee. Max Rittenbaum, Federation president, has appointed the following people to the new committee: Gilbert Bachman, Meyer Balser, M William Breman, Alfred Davis, Laurence Frank, Ely Freedman, Jack Freedman, Stanley Friedman, Burton Gold, Bernard Howard, Harvey Jacobson, Thelma Rodbell, Virginia Saul, Dr. William Schatten, Michael Schwarz, Simon Selig, Louis Taratoot, Milton Weinstein, Erwin Zaban, and Harriet Zimmerman. MDA’s ambulance babies TEL AVIV (MDA)- One of Israel’s largest and most distinguished “clubs” is the group of several hundred citizens who were born in Magen David Adorn ambulances over the years. To represent all the “ambulance babies,” a group of 50 was chosen to take part in ceremonies marking the opening of Israel’s national MDA lottery, at President Yikzhak Navon’s Jerusalem residence. The record for delivering babies in an MDA ambulance seems to be held by a former driver who now manages the MDA Medical Emergency Center in Ashkelon. He estimated that he has brought close to 600 babies into the world in his ambulance, among them a boy and girl he delivered two years apart, who grew up to marry each other. Another record holder of sorts is Hanna Yefet, the Brooklyn- born wife of a Yemenite, from Kibbutz Sde Eliahu: of her seven children, four (all boys) were born in MDA ambulances.
