NCJW needs furniture
for Russian immigrants
The Service to New Americans
(SNA) Committee of the National
Council of Jewish Women is in
need of household furniture and
goods for Russian newcomers in
Atlanta.
Tax deductible contributions of
bedroom dressers, desks, lamps (in
working condition), flatware,
sofas, and arm chairs are needed to
ease the hardship of immigration.
Pickup is available for heavy
items only. All other items can be
deposited at the NCJW
warehouse, 791 Miami Circle.

Temple Couples Club
dances and dines
The Temple Couples Club will
have a dinner and square dance
beginning at 7:30 p.m., Saturday,
Oct. 27, at the Water Works Lodge
on Bishop Place.
The cost is 510 a couple, which is
applicable toward membership.

Beth Shalom begins
adult education classes
Congregation Beth Shalom will
begin its adult education program
the fourth Week in October.
Courses offered include Hebrew
tutorial, basic concepts of
Judaism, death preparation and
adjustment, a Shabbat study group,
Jewish mysticism, and a discussion
group for young Jewish mothers.
Admission is free for members,
excluding costs for texts and
materials, $ 10 per course plus texts
and materials for nonmembers.

Atlantans head UJA
young leadership mission
Antique Jewish ritual and
ceremonial art will be presented
for auction by the museum
commission of Ahavath Achim
Synagogue on Saturday
evening, Dec. 1, at the
synagogue.
Dr. Moshe Davidowitz, a
member of the faculty of Jewish
Art at New York University,
will conduct the auction which
will be a first for Atlanta in the
category of authentic Judaica.
AA Sisterhood has
Torah discussion
The Ahavath Achim Sisterhood
will have an open board meeting at
10:15 a.m., Monday, Oct. 29 in the
Friedman Conference Room of
the synagogue. A mini-breakfast
costing 50« will be served at 10
a.m.
The meeting will be followed at
11:30 a.m. by a discussion in the
sanctuary with Rabbi David H.
Auerbach. The topic will be “A
View and Discussion of the Torah
Scrolls and Its Vestments."

has Oct. 22 meeting
Congregation Etz Chaim

Youth directors
hold conference
The first professional
enrichment conference of the
newly formed Jewish youth
directors council will be held at
Ahavath Achim Synagogue on
Oct. 24.
A keynote address by Rabbi
Juda Mintz, director of the B’nai
B’nth Hillel Foundation, will be
followed by various workshops,
group discussions, panels and a
talk by David Dubin, executive
director of the Atlanta Jewish
Community Center.
The all-day conference is open
to the public for a nominal fee.

Savannah forum
examines cults
Rabbi Shlomo Bluming,
director of Atlanta's Chabad
Center, will be the guest speaker at
a combined Jewish community
educational event in Savannah on
Oct. 23.
The event is sponsored jointly by
Savannah Hadassah, B’nai B'rith
Women, and the National Council
of Jewish Women, as a city-wide
community service.
Rabbi Bluming, who has had
extensive contact with Jewish
youths involved in cults, will speak
on “Where have all our children
gone?—Jews and the Cults."

Habima performs
‘A Majority of One’
Dr. and Mrs. Steven Baron of
Atlanta and Dr. and Mrs. Howard
Kaz of Palm Beach, Fla., are
leading a United Jewish Appeal
National Young Leadership
Mission from Oct. 17-29. People
from all parts of the United States
are on this mission to Israel.
Atlantans are Steven and Linda
Baron, Eliot and Ellen Arnovitz,
Richard and Linda Bressler, and
Steven Ross.
Prior to leaving. Dr. Baron
made it clear that he expected a
most extensive and comprehensive
trip covering all aspects of Israeli
life. He said, “It will be a planned
happening; and we will be learning
and doing from 7:30 a.m. until 11
p.m. every day and night."
Included in the extensive
itinerary are visits to two
kibbutzim, visits to Jerusalem,
military installations, absorption
centers, the Good Fence, and
Masada.
Regency ORT plans'
October events
Regency ORT has scheduled
two events for late October.
A bake sale to benefit
Maintenance ORT Training will
be held at noon, Sunday, Oct. 21,
at the Farmer’s Market on
Medlock Road in Decatur.
The second event will be a bingo
and card party at 7:30 p.m.,
Saturday, Oct. 27, at the DeKalb
Federal Savings Bank, at the
intersection of Clairmont and
Briarcliff Roads.
Proceeds will benefit Bramson
II, the ORT school in New York
City. Prizes will be awarded.

Habima, the Showcase Theater
of the Atlanta Jewish Community
Center, will present the comedy-
romance, “A Majority of One,”
beginning Thursday, Oct. 25, at
the AJCC/Peachtree building.
The play, under the direction of
Howard Stopeck and Naotada
Osaki of Tokyo, is an international
love story starring Arlene Peck as a
comely Jewish widow and Ray
Donato as a handsome Japanese
industrialist.
Performances will be held at
8 p.m. on Thursdays and
Saturdays, and 3 p.m. on Sunday
afternoons. Show dates are Oct.
25, 27, 28, and Nov. 1, 3, 4, 8. 10,
and II.
Series tickets for members and
nonmembers as well as patron
tickets, which offer a cast party
and preview discussion with the
director, are now available.

Palestine Liberation Organization

Host party planned for JNF gala
The Jewish National Fund of
Atlanta, will hold a cocktail party
at the home of Drs. Amnon and
Lynn Gimpel, on Saturday, Oct.
27, from 7 to 9 p.m.
The party will serve as a kickott
for the Host and Hostess
Committee in preparation for the
annual JNF Gala to be held Jan.
12, 1980, at the Regency-Hyalt
Hotel.
This year’s “No Speeches” gala
will be headlined by the multi
talented singer, actor, comedian
Joel Grey.
The purpose of the JNF Gala is
to present the opportunity for
members of the Atlanta
community to express solidarity
with JNFs pioneer work in land
reformation, Yitzhak Rabin,
former prime minister of the State
of Israel said. “Through its
systematic work of afforestation
and land reclamation, the JNF has
literally reshaped the panorama of
our countryside.”
