Nobel Laureate Dr. Rostya S.
Yalow has been appointed
University (Distinguished)
Professor at Large at Yeshiva
University and has joined the staff
of Montefiore Hospital and
Medical Center (an affiliate of the
university’s Albert Einstein
College of Medicine), as chairman
of a new department of clinical
science.
Dr. Yalow is the first American-
trained woman and only the
second woman to receive the
Nobel Prize in medicine
(radioimmunoassay).
Emory University co-eds Jere
Eisenberg and Carol Ann
Newberry have been awarded
scholarships by Atlanta Post 112
Ladies Auxiliary, Jewish War
Veterans. Miss Eisenberg, a
sophomore, is enrolled in the
radiology department and plans to
become an X-ray technician. Miss
Newberry has entered Emory
University School of Nursing.
Atlanta Auxiliary scholarships
are presented to the children of
veterans who plan to enter the field
of nursing or some other medically
related field.
Mrs. Doris Schwartz of Augusta plants a JNF seedling in the
Rabbi Myer and Doris Schwartz Grove in Israel. The grove is in
memory of her late husband and in her honor.

Day Camp registrar for the past
five summers, has been
appointed receptionist at the
Zaban Branch building of the
Atlanta Jewish Community
Center. As its "Ambassador of
Goodwill,” her new duties
include answering incoming
calls, making room reserva
tions for the new building, and
handling park rentals at Zaban
Park.
Ludwig J. Baum, business
manager of the Atlanta Jewish
Federation, participated this week
in the Council of Jewish
Federations Controllers Institute
in Omaha.
Designed to enhance profes
sional skills in this aspect of
Federation operations, the
Controllers Institute provides a
forum for the discussion of fiscal
and administrative concerns
impacting on local federations and
their agencies.
The Council of Jewish
Federations is the association of
more than 190 federations, welfare
funds and community councils
which serve nearly 800
communities and embrace over 95
percent of the Jewish population
of the United States and Canada.

recently chosen along with 45
youth leaders from the United
States, Canada, and Mexico to
attend special briefings in
Washington. D.C., as part of a
B'nai B'rith Young Leadership
mission.

scheduled speakers are White
House advisers Stuart Eizenstat
and Edward Sanders.
