Atlanta Hillel-Federation has
planned an impressive lineup of
activities for Israel Awareness
Week, Nov. 14-20.
Former Israeli ambassador,
Chaim Herzog, is first on the
agenda with an appearance at 8
p.m.. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at
Woodruff Medical Auditorium,
Emory University. Herzog will
discuss “Perspectives for Peace in
the Middle East: The Palestinian
Question.”
Thursday, Nov. 15, there will be
an “Israeli Dinner” at Hillel
House, followed by the film, “Elie
Weisel in Jerusalem." Study and
work opportunities for recent
graduates and graduate students
will be discussed.
Scheduled for Nov. 16-18 is a
weekend retreat at Lake Lanier.
Students from the University of
Georgia at Athens and the
University of Tennessee at
Herzog
Chattanooga will join Atlanta area
students for discussions centered
on “Israel-Egypt: A State of
Tenuous Peace.” Scholars-in-
residcnce will include the

Egyptian Embassy in Washington,
representatives from the Israeli
Consulate General, and faculty
members from political science
departments at local colleges.
Though the retreat is primarily for
students, limited space is available
for members of the community.
The popular group of young
Israeli singers, dancers and
musicians will present the 1979
Israeli Folk Festival on Monday,
Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m. at the Glenn
Auditorium, Emory University.
This is the ninth year the popular
production has toured the United
States.
More than a dozen performers,
under the direction of Danny Litai,
take part in the festival, which is
under the auspices of the President
of Israel.
Concluding Israel Awareness
Week will be an informal gathering
at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 20, at the
Hillel House for those who are
participating in Hillel's December
tour to Israel. Specific itinerary
information will be presented.
There are still spaces available on
the tour and anyone interested is
invited to the Nov. 20 discussion.
