Gate City Lodge hosts Guy Sharpe
Guy Sharpe, television
personality with WX1A-TV
Channel 11, will be the guest
speaker at the annual Gate City
Lodge of B’nai B’rith Honor the
Handicapped Awards Dinner on
Tuesday evening, Nov. 27, at the
Riviera Hyatt Motel. A reception
will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by
the awards banquet at 7 p.m.
Sharpe currently serves as
national vice president of the
Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Awards will be presented to two
individuals who have made
dramatic efforts in overcoming
physical handicaps to lead
successful lives. Two employers in
the Atlanta area who have brought
the handicapped into the work
force will also receive awards.
The recipients of these awards
were chosen in cooperation with
the Metropolitan Atlanta Task
Committee for the Handicapped.
Dr Irving Goldstein, a member of
Gate City Lodge, has been
chairman of this committee for
over 20 years.

The cost of the dinner is $9.50 a

Mizrachi Women honors
scholarship donors
The Atlanta Chapter of
American Mizrachi Women will
honor its scholarship donors at a
Scholarship Reception at 8 p.m.,
Sunday, Nov. 18, at the home of
Mrs. Liane Levetan, 2250Chrysler

Mizrachi Women's scholarship
fund helps Israel's younger
generation to continue the Jewish
tradition as Am Hasefer—“People
of the Book."

reception, which serves as a kickoff

Perimeter ORT holds
children’s carnival
Perimeter Chapter, Women’s
American ORT will hold a
children's carnival from 11 a m.-4
p.m., Friday, Nov. 23, at the
Merchants Walk in Marietta.
Games and holiday shopping for.
children will be available.
Proceeds will benefit the ORT
program, which is currently
observing its centennial year.

Atlanta Post No. 112
honors departed soldiers
Atlanta Post No. 112, Jewish
War Veterans honored America’s
fallen soldiers last week on
Veteran’s Day by placing United
States flags and markers on the
graves of veterans interred at
Greenwood and Crest Lawn
Cemeteries.
The Post has held these services
for 36 consecutive years on
Veterans Day and Memorial Day.
Families who would like
markers and flags placed on the
graves of U S. soldiers can contact
Al Schwartz, 523-2531. There is no
charge for this service, but the Post
requests that the cemetery, plot
number, and synagogue be
included.
ORT observes
Shabbat at Etz Chaim
Atlanta region. Women's
American ORT will observe an
ORT Sabbath at 8 p.m., Friday,
Nov. 16, at Congregation Etz
Chaim. 710 Mimosa Boulevard in
Roswell.
This service, in celebration of
ORTs centennial, will also be
observed in hundreds of other
synagogues throughout the nation.
ORT. the Organization for
Rehabilitation through Training,
will be recognized for its
worldwide service that has
enhanced the educational,
economic and social well
being of the Jewish people.

AJCC/Zaban sponsors
new club for adults
The Atlanta Jewish Community
Center is organizing a new club for
adults, both singles and couples,
who are at least 50 years old. The
first event is a dessert and game
night to be held at 7:30 p.m.,
Sunday, Nov. 25, at the Zaban
Branch.
After an organizational meeting
to discuss future gatherings,
participants will play Rummikub,
backgammon, Mah Jong, bridge,
poker, ping pong, pool, and other
games in the gameroom.

hold a fund-raising paper drive

AA adults present
“I Love You Rosa”
Ahavath Achim Synagogue's
Adult Education Forum will
present the Israeli film, “I Love
You Rosa," at 8 p.m., Monday,
Dec. 3, at the synagogue.
Set in 19th century Jerusalem,
the film is a love story about Rosa,
a 20-year-old childless widow who,
according to the Torah, must
marry her husband’s 11-year-old
brother. After 10 years of
marriage, during which time she
fulfills her duty and provides the
young boy with care and
tenderness, her affection mature’s
into desire.

B’nai B’rith men
continue bowling
The Greater Atlanta B’nai B’rith
will continue its men’s bowling
league at 9 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 20,
at the Chamblee Fairlanes.
The 14 four-man teams meeting
on Tuesday evenings will begin
their 10th week of bowling. The
first half of the bowling season will
end Jan, 8, with the second half of
the season to begin the following
week.
Team captains are Larry
Feinberg. Ken Weiss, Carl Passoff,
Steve Strenger, Rodney Cohen,
Steve Hyman., Jeff Kamin. Steve
Sloan, Herb Schwartz, Marshall
Cohen, and Peter Birnbaum. Mike
dayman holds the record for high
game (244) and high series (617).
Mark Goldfarb has bowled a 235
and Ira Richter has recorded a 611
series.
