Bat Shalom women cook baklava
But Shalom Hadassah will hold
a cooking chut in the preparation
of baklava at 8 p.m., Wednesday,
Dec. 12, at the home of Judy
Bemath, 2078 Valiant Drive, N.E.
Jeanne Antebi will lead the
demonstration. The cost is $1 a
person.

Organizations
Jewish Home prepares
for Dec. 2 open house
The Jewish Home’s 28th annual
open house will be held from 2-5
p.m., Sunday, Dec. 2.
This event, which is the only
fund-raising project of the year,
will feature handmade crafts,
decoupage, ceramics, jewelry,
bake sale and a wide variety of
merchandise.
The next monthly meeting of the
Volunteer Corps will be held at
noon, Thursday, Dec. 6.
Volunteer meetings are held on
the first full-week Thursday of
each month. Various Hanuka
programs will be presented at the
Home during the festival week.

Sholem Aleichem tales
The Atlanta Jewish Community
Center will present a Jewish Book
Month reading entitled “The
Stories of Sholem Aleichem” from
4-5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 2, at the
Zaban Branch.
Raida and Martin Reish and
Beverly and Sanford Shmerling
will read from six of Aleichem’s
most popular folk tales. Gregg
Reish will accompany the
narrations on guitar.
The Zaban Branch will also host
a wine and cheese party for non
members at 8 p.m., Thursday, Dec.
6.
Tours of the new facility will be
given. Persons who would like to

Beth Shalom holds
newspaper drive
The first collection for
Congregation Beth Shalom’s
newspaper drive will be held from
9 a.m.-noon, Sunday, Dec. 9, at
Briarlake Elementary School,
LaVista and Briarlake Roads.
Newspapers for recycling will be
collected thereafter on the second
Sunday of each month at the same
location and during the same
times.
Etz Chaim holds
movie, election nights
Congregation Etz Chaim will
present the movie “West Side
Story” at 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. I,
at the North Fulton Human
Resource Center on Grove Way in
Roswell.
An assortment of continental
coffees and desserts will be served
following the film. Tickets are $5 a
person, $10 a couple.

The congregation will hold
elections for the board of trustees
the following evening at 7:30 p.m.,
Sunday, Dec. 2, at the First Baptist

Sisterhood will sponsor its annual
bazaar and white elephant sale
from noon-9 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 2,
at the synagogue.
Lunch, dinner, and snacks will
be served. Sephardic foods that
will be served include burekas
(potato-filled pastries), boyo
(spinach- and cheese-filled pastry)
and baklava and burmelios (hot
pastry puffs dipped in honey).
The bazaar will also have many
gift items on sale, including
bargains at the white elephant sale.
A secret shop for children will be
featured and there will be a raffle
for an afghan.
Admission is 50«, with proceeds
benefiting Or VeShalom’s
educational program.

AJCC/Peachtree
sponsors art sale
The Atlanta Jewish Community
Center will present a show and sale
of American and European prints
from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday, Dec.
9, at the Peachtree building.
Etchings, woodcuts, litho
graphs, and serigraphs by Chagall,
Daumier, Fantin-Latour, Maillot,
Rouault, and Whistler will be
featured. Also included in the
selection are pieces by
contemporary artists such as
Baskin, Coughlin, O’Connor,
Kaczmarek, and Eggers.
A print specialist will be on hand
to answer questions. Prints are
priced from $5. The public is
invited to attend.

B’nai B’rith Women
offer gourmet dinner
A gourmet dinner for 12, from
hors d'oeuvres to dessert,
including wine, is the prize that will
be offered in a drawing sponsored
by Atlanta B’nai B’rith Women.
This drawing, a fund-raising
event, will be held in Jan., with the
dinner to take place some time in
Feb. Hosted by Colony Square,
the dinner will be available either
at its restaurant or at the winner's
home.
Tickets are 51 each, or a book of
six tickets for $5. Upon request, a
kosher dinner is available.

Men’s ORT honors Rabbi Epstein
Atlanta-Men’s ORT will host a
cocktail reception honoring as its
Man of the Year Rabbi Harry H.
Epstein, spiritual leader of
Ahavath Achim Synagogue* at
8:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 15, at
Ahavath Achim Synagogue.
Rabbi Epstein will be honored
as founder of Atlanta Men's ORT,
a founder of the National Rabbinic
ORT Committee, and member of
the board of directors of the
American ORT Federation. Rabbi
Epstein, who has been spiritual
leader of Ahavath Achim
Synagogue for 51 years,
introduced ORT to the South in
1928.
Guest address will be presented
by Sidney E. Leiwant, president of
the American ORT Federation.
Co-chairmen for this event, which
also commemorates ORTs 100th
year, are Norman Diamond and
Dr. Fred Katz.
