will present its annual
Distinguished Service Award for
I981 to Harris Jacobs on
Saturday, Jan. 23, at a dinner at
the Ahavath Achim Synagogue. A
reception will begin at 7 p m
Officers and trustees of the lodge
for I982 will be installed.
The Distinguished Service
Award is presented annually to a
member of the Jewish community
who has benefited his community
and fellow man, exemplifying the
tenets of B’nai B’rith. Jerry Shure
was chairman of the selection
committee.
Jacobs currently serves as
secretary and member of the board
of directors of the Atlanta Jewish
Community Center; member of
the boards of Atlanta Jewish
Federation, Ahavath Achim
Synagogue and Men’s ORT; arid
as a . national Anti-Defamation
League commissioner. He is
Jacobs
parliamentarian of the DeKalb
County Democratic Party and
member of the board of directors of
Atlanta Legal Aid Society.
Jacobs received the Jewish
Welfare Board's Leadership
Award in 1980. His past activities
include president of Atlanta
Lodge, B’nai B’rith; president of
Georgia State Association, B’nai
B’rith; chairman of the
Southeastern regional board of the
Anti-Ddamation League of B’nai
B’rith and chairman of the labor
law section of the Georgia Bar
Association.
He is a member of the DeKalb
County Community Relations
Commission, former chairman of
the DeKalb County Militia
District Commission and past
international president of Tau
Epsilon Phi Fraternity.
Harris Jacobs is president of the
Atlanta law firm of Jacobs and
Langford, P.A., specializing in the
representation of labor unions and
their members. He and his wife,
Kitty, the former Katherine Stock,
are the parents of three children.

AJCC plans teen exchange
program with Yehud, Israel
A special program is being
instituted between Atlanta and its
sister city of Yehud, Israel. The
Atlanta Jewish Comfnunity
Center is planning to send rising
high school juniors and seniors to
Yehud for the summer of 1982.
Part of the American
delegation's responsibility in Israel
will he to work as counselors in an
American style day camp. They
will help run the American-
oriented day camp for elementary

school age Israeli children in
Yehud.
Participants will be
adopted into two different Israeli
homes in the town of Yehud. The
group will live together and on a
kibbutz for about a week and will
travel together to all parts
of Israel. Some of the points of
interest will include: Jerusalem for
4 or 5 days; the Negev, with stops
in Beersheva, Masada, Eilat, and
Ein Geidi; visits to Tel Aviv, Jaffa,
Yad Mordecai, the Diaspora
Museum; trips to northern Israel,
including Safed and the Golan;
exposure to Olim; swimming in the
Mediterranean and Dead Seas.
At the same time the American
teens are in Israel, eight youngsters
from Yehud will come to Atlanta
to learn about the American way
of life. Each of the Israelis will also
be housed with two different
American families (214 weeks
each). They in turn will work in the
AJECOMCE Day Camp and
travel to places in and around
Atlanta, with final tours in
Washington and New York.
Rita Klee, who is chairing the
new Israeli Exchange Committee,
talks with such enthusiasm and
excitement about what is about to
happen. “Our kids will be given an
opportunity they will remember
the rest of their lives. I am so proud
to be a part of such an unbelievable
experience for teenagers.”
