A: Three Rivers Stadium, Pittsburgh. On April 23, I97I, Stone
yielded five hits in winning his first major league game. TJie San
Lrancisco Giants defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates, 2-0. Luke
Walker was the losing pitcher.
Q: In Sandy Koufax’ first no-hitter he had 13 strikeouts. Who
was the only player, credited with an at-bat, whom hedid not strike

A: Frank Thomas. On June 30, I962. Thomas, the Mets' first
baseman, had no hits in two at-bats with a walk. The l.os Angeles
Dodgers defeated the New York Mets, at Dodger Stadium, 5-0
Q: Benny Kauff had 234 stolen bases, including leading totals in
1914 and 1915 while playing in the Federal l eague. Who was the
pitcher when Kauff had his only stolen base in a World Series
game?
A: Ed Cicotte. On Oct I3, 1917, in the sixth inning, with Ray
Schalk catching, Kauff, the Giants' center fielder, hit a two-out
single and then stole second base. The Chicago White Sox defeated
ihc New York Giants, in the fifth game of the World Series, 8-5.
With Cicotte pitching, Kauff was caught stealing in the first game
of the Series.

A leading educator and
consultant in the field of
anesthesiology, Dr. Alpert is vice
president of George Washington
University, Washington, DC.,
and professor of anesthesiology at
its school of medicine. He is the
president of the Maryland-District
of Columbia Anesthesiology
Society, chairman of the
Interdisciplinary Committee on
Drug Abuse of the Medical Society
of the District of Columbia and a
member ol the society’s board of
credentials.
He is a consultant in anesthesiology
at Walter Reed Army Medical
Center and Mt. Alto Veterans
Administration Hospital, and a
member of the D C. Professional
Advisory Committee on Drug
Abuse. He is also on the board of
directors of the Wood Library-
Museum of Anesthesiology, and
executive secretary and past
national president of Phi Delta
Dr. Alpert
Epsilon Medical Fraternity.
Widely known for his activities
in behalf of the Jewish people and
Israel on the international and
national levels, Dr Alpert is
chairman of Israel Bonds National
Health Professions and Services
Committee, on the national board
of directors of the Council of
Jewish Federations and Welfare
Funds, and vice chairman of its
campaign service committee. A
member of the honorary board of
governors of the Hebrew
University in Jerusalem, he serves
as national co-chairman of the
University’s School of Medicine
Building Fund, and is a director of
the American Friends of the
University.
Dr. Alpert serves on the national
board ol governors of the Israel
Bond Organization and is a past
chairman of the steering
committee of the Washington, D C,
Israel Bond campaign. He is also
on the board of directors of Israel
Investors Corporation.
Past president of the executive
committee of the United Jewish
Appeal of Greater Washington, he
is active on its budget and
allocation, gift, and loan
committees. A member of the
board of managers of Adas Israel
Congregation, Dr. Alpert is also
vice president of the Greater
Washington Jewish Community
Foundation, a member of the
executive committee of the Jewish
Community Council, and a
director of the Kauffmann Camp
for Boys and Girls.

Lowenstein named chairman
of Bonds’ ‘Unity with Israel Day’
In response to a call by Prime
Minister Menachem Begin of
Israel to* sfren'gthen Israel's
economy in anticipation of the
withdrawal from Sinai, the Israel
Bond campaign in Atlanta has
launched a major sales and cash
collection effort that will
culminate on April 25.
The date marks the completion
of Israel’s evacuation of the Sinai
and has been designated by the
Bond organization as “Unity with
Israel Day.”
In his message. Prime Minister
Begin urged Israel Bonds to
“demonstrate its solidarity” with
Israel by “making a special effort
in the coming weeks to enable us to
back up our endeavors for peace
with a strong economy."
The chairman of “Unity with
Israel Day," Charles D.
Lowenstein. pointed out that
Israel was making tremendous
sacrifices for peace, as evidenced
by the scheduled return to Egypt of
the last portion of the Sinai.
“We can do no less to
demonstrate our solidarity,” he
said, "than to give'the people Of
Israel the economic strength to
weather the difficulties that still lie
ahead
“In response to Prime Minister
Begin’s request,” Lowenstein
added, “we have begun an
intensive sales and cash effort
which will culminate on April 25.
