Mrs. Linda Weinroth has
been named educational
director of Congregation Etz
Chaim.
Mrs. Weinroth, who has a
graduate degree in education,
has been associated with Etz
Chaim’s educational program
since the founding of the
congregation in 1975. She was
the assistant educational
director for four years and
established the Hebrew School
in 1977.
She received her religious
training in Elorida at the
Jacksonville Jewish Center,
attended Camp Ramah and is a
graduate of its Pilgrimage
Program lo Israel SWe r* * on the
executive board of Shoshanim
Hadassah, and is active in ORT
and the Et/ Chaim Sisterhood.
Mrs. Weinroth lives in Sandy
Springs with her husband
Michael and their two children,
Adam and Traci
Savannah artist Betty Nathan
was a first prize winner in the
recent Armstrong State College
Arts Festival
Ms. Nathan, a student at
Armstrong, won a $500 purchase
award for her acrylic painting,
“Art Education.”

Julie Zweig of Atlanta, a
participant in the (icorgia Science
and Engineering l air, which was
held at the University of Georgia,
was one of the first place winners in
the Junior Division of Life
Sciences.
Her science project was entitled
"Temperature Alterations as a
Factor in Determining Penicillin
Resistance of S. epidermidis.”
Julie, a graduate of the Epstein
School, is a freshman at Northside
High School.
She is the daughter of Dr.
Arnold and Carolyn Zweig.
The Bar Mitzva of Craig Brian
Rubin of Savannah will take place
at 9:30 a m. Saturday, May 8. at

Dr. David Turkat of Atlanta has
been selected to be profiled in
Who’s Who in the South and
Southwest.
Dr. Turkat, a psychologist in
private practice, is a member of the
American Psychological Associa
tion, Mental Health Association of
Georgia, Access Atlanta, the
Brandeis University Alumni
Council, and is a fellow of the
Menninger Foundation.
He is the host of a mental health
radio series entitled “Take Care,”
and he produces and hosts a health
news talk show on Cable Atlanta
television entitled “Yout Health *
News.”
The Bat Mitzva of Lisa
Schwartz of Atlanta will take
place at JOa.m. Saturday, May
8, at Temple Emanu-El. A
congregational kiddush will
follow. Lisa is the daughter of
Barbara and Lee Schwartz. She
is the granddaughter of Nathan
H. Schwartz and the late Zenda
Schwartz of Cleveland, Ohio,
and Beatrice and Sidney
Schaeffer of Palm Beach, Fla.
The Bar Mitzva of Todd Robert
Berman of Miami will take place
Saturday, May 1, at Temple Israel.
Todd is the son of Kathy and Ivan
Berman. Grandparents are Mr.
and Mrs. Lewis Serbin of Miami
Beach, and Mr. and Mrs. Ephie
Berman of Atlanta.

version of “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves,” at the Doraville

Two Atlanta women, Betty R.
Smulian and Beverly KievnMn,
were recently elected to the
Committee of 200, a group
composed of the top 200 women
business owners, chief executive
officers and senior corporate
managers in the United States.
Mrs. Smulian is chairman of the
board of Trimblehouse Corporation,
lighting designers and manufacturers.
She is also on the boards of
Women Business Owners, Atlanta
Women's Network, Women’s
Commerce Club, National
Conference of Christians and
Jews, the American Jewish
Committee, and is listed in the
Women of Achievement section of
the Atlanta Professional
Directory.
Mrs. Kievman is founder and
president of Marketing Innovations,
a marketing consulting firm. She is
a member of the board of directors
of the National Bank of Georgia,
president of the Georgia chapter of
the Leukemia Society of America,
and a founder and member of the
board of directors of the Women’s
Commerce Club. She is also on
the national board of Women’s
Forum.

David J. Mink of Atlanta was
recently named an accounting
officer in the controller’s division
of the First National Bank of
Atlanta.
Mink, who has been with the
bank since 1980, graduated magna
cum laude with a BBA in
accounting from the University of
Georgia, where he was elected to
Beta Alpha Psi, the national
accounting fraternity, and Beta
Gamma Sigma, the national
business honor society.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Morris Mink.

named program associate as part
of JWB’s Program Development
Services staff in New York.
He is the brother of Sharon
Doochin and Mrs. Paul Goldstein,
both of Atlanta.

Dr. James A. Kaufmann, an
Atlanta internist, has been
honored by the Medical
Association of Georgia as the 1982
recipient of the Civic Endeavor
Award. The presentation was
made at the association's, 128th
annual meeting held recently in
Savannah.
Dr. Kaufmann was nominated
for the award by the Medical
Association of Atlanta for hit
outstanding public service and
participation in civic activities.
