Savannah’s Rabbi A. I. Rosenberg dies at 72
Rabbi Abraham Isaac Rosen
berg, 72, for many years the spiri
tual leader of Congregation B’nai
B’rith Jacob in Savannah, died
Sunday, Feb. 10.
Funeral service was held Mon
day, Feb. 11, at Congregation B’nai
B’rith Jacob, with burial at Bona-
venture Cemetery.
A native of Poland, Rabbi Ro
senberg came to this country after
first emigrating to Canada. He
studied at a seminary in New York
and became rabbi at B’nai B’rith
Jacob in 1944. He also served as
chaplain to Jewish soldiers stationed
at Ft. Stewart.
He was one of the founders of
the National Conference of Syna
gogue Youth, served on the boards
of local mental health agencies and
the United Way, and belonged to
the chaplains’ group at Memorial
Medical Center. In 1972, he received
the gold medal of the Religious
Zionists of America.
Survivors include his wife, Syl
via Rabinowitz Rosenberg; son,
Dr. Jules Rosenberg of Newton
Center, Mass.; daughter, Mrs. Judy
Sklar of Austin, Texas; sisters,
Mrs. Ruth Albert and Miss Leah
Rosenberg, both of Montreal, Can
ada; and four grandchildren.

Jake Max Poller, 89, of Cairo,
Ga., died Friday, Jan. 25.
Graveside service was held Sun
day, Jan. 27, at the Hebrew Ceme
tery in Thomasville, with Rabbi
Stanley J. Garfein of Tallahassee,
Fla. officiating.
A native of Russia, he came to
America when he was 13 years old
and became a United States citizen
while serving with the U.S. Army
during World War I.
A retired merchant, Mr. Poller
was a member of Temple Israel in
Tallahassee and Congregation B’nai
Israel in Thomasville. Active in
community affairs, he was a mem
ber of the Cairo Kiwanis Club, the
Cairo Masonic Lodge 299 F&AM
and was a volunteer for the Ameri
can Red Cross at the V. A. Domicil
iary in Thomasville. His awards
for service included recognition as
a 60-year legionnaire, Mr. Legion
naire of All Times; and, in 1980,

dren and one great-grandchild.
Karl (Kalman) Dziewienski
Karl (Kalman) Dziewienski, 79,
of Atlanta died Thursday, Feb. 7.
Graveside service was held Fri
day, Feb. 8, at Crest Lawn Mem
orial Park, with Rabbi Emanuel
Feldman officiating.
Mr. Dziewienski was born in Po
land and was a concentration camp
survivor. He came to Atlanta from
Germany in 1962, and was a retired
real estate developer. He was a
member of Congregation Beth Ja
cob and of Hemschech.
Survivors include his wife, Ce-
cile; daughter, Erna Martino of At
lanta; brothers, Felix and Herman
Dziewienski of Atlanta; and two
grandchildren.

Mrs. Ethel L. Friedman
Mrs. Ethel Lefkoff Friedman,
85, of Atlanta died Monday, Feb.
11.
Graveside service was held
Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Greenwood
Cemetery, with Rabbi Arnold Good
man and Cantor Isaac Goodfriend
officiating.
Mrs. Friedman was a member of
Ahavath Achim Synagogue.

Monte A. Krissman
Monte A. Krissman, 45, of Los
Angeles died Saturday, Jan. 12.
Funeral service was held Tuesday,
Jan. 15, at TaNach Chapel, with
burial in Mount Sinai Memorial
Park Mortuary.
The Tennessee native was a law
yer.
Suiviving are his wife, Mrs. Rosa-
lyn Krissman of Beverly Hills, Calif.;
a daughter, Miss Marika Krissman
of Beverly Hills; a son, Charles
Krissman of Beverly Hills; mother,
Mrs. Celia Krissman of Florida;
and a brother, Stephen Krissman
of Savannah.
