The Bat Mitzva of Shira Kapplin
of Tampa, Fla., will take place
at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at
congregation Schaarai Zedek
in Tampa.
Shira is the daughter of Andi
and Steve Kapplin, formerly of
Atlanta. Grandparents are I.J.
and Rita Kapplin of Atlanta
and Rebecca Perman of Jackson
ville, Fla., and the late Saul
Perlman.
Harriet Zimmerman of Atlanta was
elected to the Executive Committee
of the American Jewish Joint
Distribution Committee at its 71st
annual meeting in New York Dec.
5.
The JDC is the overseas philan
thropic arm of the American Jewish
community. In 1985 the JDC provided
for the health, welfare, and education
of close to 500,000 men, women
and children in 30 countries overseas.
Marcia and Raymond Yarfitz
have recently returned from visiting
their daughter and grandchildren
in New Orleans for the Thanksgiving
holidays.
Their son-in-law, Mark Schleif-
stein, an investigative reporter for
The Times-Picayune newspaper, is
covering Louisiana Gov. Edwards’
trial.
Faye Horwitz of Atlanta has
enrolled as a freshman in the
School of Speech at Northwestern
University in Evanston, Ill.
A graduate of Riverwood High
School in Sandy Springs, she
was president of the drama club
and received the Most Accom
plished in Drama Award for
1984-85. She was a member of
the National Honor Society,
TAG, the rifle corps and the
basketball and volleyball teams.
She recently served as stage
manager for a production of one-
act plays and is assistant director
for another play being produced
by the drama department at
Northwestern.
Franklin Kreutzer of Miami has
been installed as the 20th international
president of the United Synagogue
of America.

announce the birth of a daughter,
Belinda Rebecca, on Nov. 14.
Grandparents are Sylvia and Saul
Becker of Atlanta, and the late
Racheland DovSandalonof Petach
Tikvah, Israel.

Pollock of Sarasota. Fla., and the
late Dora Becker of Haverhill, Mass.
Belinda was named in memory
of her great-grandfathers Benjamin
Pollock and Robert Becker.

Bryan, on Nov. 20.

Michael Bryan was given the
Hebrew name Reuven Binyamin
for his paternal great-grandfather
and maternal great-uncle. The bris
was performed by Cantor Akiva
Ostrovsky.

Eleanor M. Berger of Pompano
Beach, Fla., and the late Samuel
D. Berger.
Lauren was given the Hebrew
name Shmuela Israela in a naming
ceremony at Temple Sinai, with
Rabbi Philip N. Kranz officiating.
She is named in memory of both her
grandfathers.

Saadyaw Aharon in memory of his

Milsen of Atlanta will take place

Temple Emanu-El. A congrega
tional kiddush will follow.
Eric is the son of Carol and
Henry Milsen. Grandparents are
the late Jeanne and Julius
Friedman of Miami Beach, and
Sylvia Milsen of Miami Beach
and the late Harry Milsen.
Coretta Scott King will serve on
the Union of Councils for Soviet
Jews National Advisory Board.
Mrs. King is founding president
and chief executive officer of the
Martin Luther King Jr. Center for
Nonviolent Social Change, head
quartered in Atlanta.
Samuel Danzig of Marietta will
take place at 10:3Ca.m. Saturday,
Dec. 21, at The Temple. A
congregational kiddush will
follow.
Joshua is the son of Ron and
Margaret Danzig. Grandparents
are Mrs. Irma Roth of San
Francisco, and Dr. and Mrs.
Joseph Resse of New Milford,
Conn.
Benjamin Netanyahu, permanent
representative of Israel to the United
Nations, will address the annual
Diamond Key Dinner of EMUNAH
Women of America on Dec. 15, at
the New York Hilton Hotel The
dinner will honor Charlotte and
Harold Dachs of Great Neck, NY.
Keith Rinzler (standing, right) receives award for being “most
academic brother” of his Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity chapter at
Boston University during its chartering luncheon.
Keith and another student founded the chapter last year. It now
has 30 brothers and 20 current pledges.
He is the son of Bobby and Renee Rinzler of Atlanta. Grandparents
are Nora and Charles Rinzler and Mrs. Dorothy Joel, all of Atlanta.
Mr. and Mrs. Hyman Silverman of Atlanta will celebrate their 50th
ann ' versar Y ^ ec - 21. The Silvermans will be honored by their
c i ren, Harvey and Judy Silverman and Glenda and Fred
roder, and their grandchildren, Robin and Karen Silverman,
ric, Jordy and Shira Broder, at a dinner dance to be held at
C ongregation Shearith Israel.
Mr. and Mrs. Silverman, formerly of Norfolk, Va. have lived in
Atlanta for the past seven years.
