Esptein School to hold
’86-87 recruitment coffees
The Epstein School and Ahavath
Achim Early Childhood Program
will hold its first 1986-87 recruit
ment coffeeat 7:30 p.m. Wednesday,
Jan. 29, at the home of Lynne and
Jack Halpern. All parents are
welcome. A second coffee will be
held at the school at 9:30 a.m.

UAHC and RJSC plan
Annual Winter Retreat
The UAHC College Education
Department and the Reform Jewish
Students Committee of Emory invites
area college students to the Second
Annual Winter Retreat, Jan. 31-
Feb. 2, at the UAHC Camp Coleman
in Cleveland, Ga.
The theme for the weekend,
“Journey into Judaism,” will provide
students with the opportunity to
explore various issues within Reform
Judaism. The program includes
Shabbat worship, and social and
sports activities in a peaceful and
beautiful camp setting.
Cost for the weekend is $30,
which includes all meals, lodging
and transportation assistance.

Young Judaea schedules
two events for January
Atlanta Young Judaeans will go
ice skating at Stone Mountain on
Sunday, Jan. 5. They will leave
from the AJCC, Zaban at 1:30
p.m. and return at 6 p.m. Cost is
$6. Reservations can be made to
Asher at the regional office, 876-1526.
A Camp Judaea-style family dinner
will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday,
Jan. 9, at Congregation B’nai Torah.
Cost is $2. Anyone who has been to
Camp Judaea or is interested in
going is welcome. A slide show

Torah Day School plans
founders dinner March 30
George and Elyse Wenthermer
will chair the first Torah Day School
dinner, planned for Sunday, March
30, at the Peachtree Plaza Hotel.
The school will honor those
individuals who made Torah Day
School possible — its founding
members. The host committee will
be chaired by Mrs. Paula Gris and
Mrs. Elana Ellman.

Esther Beyda displays a Hanuka
kit which she received from

Hiliel, who co-sponsored a
program in which they distributed
over 200 Hanuka kits on the

Sidney J. Marcus lodge
installs officers Dec. 15
The 1986 officers of Sidney J.
Marcus B’nai B’rith #3244 were
installed at the lodge’s installation
banquet on Sunday, Dec. 15, with
35 members and guests in attendance.
The officers are as follows: Bruce
Meyer, president; Richard Levine,
president elect; Stephen Dermer,
vice president membership; Joel
Freedman, vice president programs;
Alan Silverman, treasurer; Jack
Weissman, secretary; and Larry
Freudenberg, past president.
Issachar Katzir, consul general
of Israel, addressed the group. Sam
Kaplan, regional director for B’nai
B’rith, and Larry Freudenberg. lodge
steering committee chairman, were
honored for their contribution to
the formation of the lodge.

Etz Chaim dinner dance
to mark 10th anniversary
As part of Congregation Etz
Chaim’s tenth anniversary celebra
tion, the officers and board of
trustees will host a dinner dance on
Saturday, Jan. 11. Installation of
officers and board of trustees of
the synagogue and a mini-musical
will be included in the evening’s
activities.

Art classes to be offered
at the AJCC/Peachtree
The AJCC Cultural Arts and
Senior Adult Department has
announced its schedule of winter
art classes, to be held at the AJCC/
Peachtree.
Painting will be offered 10 a.m.-
noon on Thursdays. The eight-
week course begins Jan. 9, and the
fee is $20. Multi-crafts will be
offered 10 a.m.-noon Tuesdays.
The four-week course begins Jan.
7, and the fee, which includes all
materials, is $20.

A holiday song
Israeli singer Haya Bar-el visits the AJCC Long Island Drive
Senior Adult Day Services Center to help celebrate Hanuka by
singing Hebrew and Yiddish songs.
Earlier there were shopping trips so everyone could purchase
presents to exchange. The Hanuka party also featured dreidel-
playing and latkes. Six people each lit a candle on the menorah to
celebrate the sixth night.
Itzhak Sordo, Israeli shaliach to the AJCC, visited the center
and showed slides of holiday observances in Israel.
