Mike Lainoff
Assistant Executive Director,
Visit Israel Informed
In last week’s CenterSpot Barrie Segal, AJCC
executive director, talked about the Center’s Israel
Program Center. This committee, chaired by Asher
Benator, and staffed by Itzhak Sordo, Center
shaliach, is responsible for all Center programs
dealing with Israel and Israeli culture. One of the
many programs being offered now by the Israel
Program Center, is an informative and provocative
series titled, “Visit Israel Informed.” The Visit
Israel Informed committee, chaired by Toby Steinberg,
has put together an outstanding spring series,
designed to appeal to those planning a trip to Israel,
those who have been to Israel and those who are not
planning a trip but would like to learn more about
Israel today.
The first program will feature a panel presentation
by Rabbi Shalom Lewis, Etz Chaim Synagogue
Rebbitzen Estelle Feldman and the Rev. Jim Price,
Mount Paran Church of God. Each panel member
has recently visited Israel and will share observations
and insights on “Israel, As 1 Last Saw It.” The first
program of the series will be held at the AJCC on
srael
Program
Center
Peachtree at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6. Following
the presentation of the panelists, questions and
observations will be taken from the audience. The
series is free and open to the community.

Israel Air Force, presentor.

Help!
The Events and Cultural Arts Departments are
in need of a piano in good condition. This piano will
be used exclusively for performances and as part of
the Community Orchestra and the theatrical
productions presented by AJCC performing groups.
If you have a piano you would like to donate, please
call Chana or Beverly at 875-7881.
The Cultural Arts Department is also in need of
several tape recorders. If you have a tape deck or
recorder you would like to donate to the Center,
please call Chana or Beverly.
Image Before My Eyes
The AJCC Cultural Arts Department will show
the award winning film “Image Before My Eyes” at
7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, at the Peachtree Building.
The film deais with Jewish Poland before its
destruction, the largest and most important center
of Jewish culture and creativity in the world.
Ironically, the last generation of Polish Jews is
better known for its annihilation in the Holocaust
than for its achievements in life.
Through rare films, as well as through photo
graphs, memorabilia, music and interviews with
survivors of this lost culture, “Image Before My
Eyes” vividly recreates Jewish life in Poland from
the late 19th century through the 1930s—a unique
and now vanished era.
For further information, call Chana or Beverly at
875-7881.
