Albert D. Maslia, native Atlantan
and lifelong member of Congregation
Or VeShalom, has been elected
president of the synagogue for the
second time and will be installed at
a dinner dance at 7:30p.m. Saturday,
Jan. 18, at the synagogue.
The event will also honor Emanuel
Rothstein, outgoing president.
Maslia, who served as OVS presi
dent in 1964-65, has for many years
served on and chaired various
committees including finance,
membership and education. He was
president of the Atlanta Bureau of
Jewish Education for three years,
from 1977-79, and is active in the
Atlanta Jewish Federation.
He is president of the Buckhead
Business Association, president of
the Lenox Square Merchant’s
Association and is on the board of
directors of Goodwill Industries.
Masha’s goal is for his adminis
tration to involve the younger
members of thesynagogue in all its
Albert Maslia
functions and activities, a goal
reflected by the number of new
younger members who will serve
with him this year. To insure a
smooth transition, Maslia wants
“to involve the youth so they will
be prepared to assume the leadership
as we move into the 21st century.
These young adults are enthusiastic
about bringing new ideas to their
congregation and want OVS to
remain a thriving, growing congre
gation within the Atlanta com
munity.”
Rabbi S. Robert Ichay, spiritual
leader of OVS, said, “Albert's dedi
cation, devotion and commitment
to the synagogue is an inspiration
to everyone. Sometimes one wonders
what comes first, his business or
his synagogue.”
In addition to Maslia, other officers
to be installed are Neil Galanti,
Lenny Franco and Mark Antebi,
vice presidents; Jeff Lebedin, trea
surer; Michael Benator and Joel
Marks, secretaries; Dan Duwell,
general director; Si Sater, assistant
general director; Isaac R. Galanti,
chairman, Bikur Holim; Morris
Benator, assistant chairman. Bikur
Holim; Faye Amato, chairman,
education committee; and Albert
D. Cohen, James Arogeti and Morris
Piha, members-at-large.

Ya’akov was born in Shanghai,

the Foreign Ministry in 1962. He
served in diplomatic posts in New

A1PAC is the only American
Jewish organization registered to
