The Bat Mitzva of Lois Claire
DeFrancis of Stone Mountain
will take place at 10 a.m.
Saturday, Feb. 15, at Con
gregation Beth Shalom. A con
gregational kiddush will follow.
Lois is the daughter of Paul
and Judi DeFrancis. Grand
parents are Esther Perlman of
Boca Raton, Fla., and Arthur
and Dorothy DeFrancis of
Atlanta.
Rabbi Saul Rubin of Savannah
will visit Brewton-Parker College
in Mount Vernon on Feb. 27 under
the auspices of the Jewish Chautau
qua Society (JCS).
Rubin, rabbi of Mickve Israel
Congregation for 14 years, will
discuss “Judaism and Christianity—
Similarities and Differences."
He is chairman of the Havurah
Committee of the Central Conference
of American Rabbis, board member
of the Senior Citizens Council, and
member of the Rotary Club, as
well as convener of the Savannah
Clergy Society.

Martin C. Bareli of Muttontown,
N.Y, chancellor. New York State
Board of Regents, has been named
chairman of the board of governors
of the Synagogue Council of America,
comprising the congregational and
rabbinic bodies of Conservative,
Orthodox and Reform Judaism in
the United States.
Bareli is a practicing attorney
and senior partner in the firm of
Golenbock and Bareli. He is chairman
of the board of Long Island Jewish
Medical Center and remains vice
president of the Synagogue Council.

Alpert of Marietta will take
place at 6:30 p.m. Saturday,
Feb. 15, at Congregation Etz
Chaim.
Shanie is the daughter of Rick
and Debbie Alpert. Grandparents

Three Jewish chaplains in the
U S. military have been promoted
to top rank. Rabbi Aaron Landes
of Elkins Park, Penn., chairman of
the executive committee of the
JWB Commission on Chaplaincy,
was promoted to rear admiral.
Naval Reserve.
Receiving the appointment to
brigadier general were Dr. Israel
Drazin, named assistant chief of
chaplains of the U.S. Army in
charge of mobilization; and Rabbi
Simeon Kobrinetz, director of the
Veterans Administration Chaplaincy
Service.

Michael K. Levine, M.D. of
Atlanta, a fellow of the American
Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is
one of the first recipients of the
Academy’s PREP (Pediatrics’ and
Review Education Program) Fellow
ship Award. He has been active in
the PREP continuing education
program, completing at least 20
hours per year of coordinated self-
directed and self-evaluated study,
since the inception of PREP in
1979.

Dr. Manuel I. W'eisman of Augusta
has been nominated for membership
to the board of directors of the
American Association of Endo-
dontists.
Weisman, clinical professor of
endodontics at the Medical College
of Georgia’s School of Dentistry,
will present a course called “Con
quering Pain —the Essence of En
dodontic Care” Feb. 8 at the South
Elorida Institute for Post Graduate
Health Education in Fort Lauder
dale.

Lisa Jan Kerber of Atlanta is
included in the 1985-86 "Who’s
Who Among Students in American
Universities and Colleges." She has
also been elected to Alpha Eta
National Honor Society for students
in allied health.
She expects to earn a bachelor of
science degree cum laude in radiologic
technologies from the Medical
College of Georgia in June.

presents a check for $20,000 to George Lefont, chief barker for Variety
Club of Atlanta —Tent 21 and president of Lefont Theater
Corporation. The money was raised from sales of “Cinema
Passports” at Video Warehouse locations. Proceeds will benefit
the Variety Club’s children’s charities, including the Elaine Clark
Variety Center for handicapped children and the cardiology wing
at the Henrietta Egleston Children’s Hospital.
