PAGE 20 THE SOUTHERN ISRAELITE February 14, 1986 Obituaries Leo Eizenstat dies at 73 Dr. Sidney Q. Janus Dr. Sidney Q. Janus of Atlanta, 73, died Saturday, Feb. 8. Funeral service was held Mon day, Feb. 10, at Spring Hill with Rabbi Harry H. Epstein and Rabbi Arnold Goodman officiating. Inter ment was at Greenwood Cemetery. For over 40 years. Dr. Janus conducted a private practice of in dustrial/organizational psych ology. He was recently honored by Delta Airlines for 40 years of con tinuous consulting services. Dr. Janus devoted his life to elevating the professional standard of psychological practice in the state of Georgia and to extending psychological services to Georgia’s disadvantaged. He was a major force behind the establishment of the applied psychology licensing law in Georgia, one of the oldest such laws in the nation. He was a past president of the Zionist Organization of America, Atlanta District; a past president of the Atlanta Bureau of Jewish Education; a past officer in the Brookwood Rotary Club and a member of Ahavath Achim Syna gogue, the Jewish Home, B’nai B’rith, Men’s ORT, The Jewish War Veterans and the High Mu seum. During World War II, he served in the office of the assistant secre tary of the Navy for Manpower Logistics, Atlanta District, and served for a time after the war as a part-time professor at Georgia Institute of Technology. Dr. Sidney Janus In addition to contributing articles to various professional jour nals, Dr. Janus was a scholar of Hebrew letters. He also edited the book, “Our Story Atlanta, A Pano rama of Israel” and recently com pleted the draft of a book detailing the philosophies of corporate execu tives. For 18 consecutive years, he delivered semi-annual book re views at St. Phillips Cathedral. Dr. Janus and his wife Leah celebrated their 50th wedding anni versary last June. In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Barry and Micah Janus, both of Atlanta; daughter, Ms. Raizi Janus-Gordon of New York City; brother, Charlie Jones of New York City; sister, Mrs. Cele Politzer of Del Ray, Fla.,; daughter- in-law, Mrs. Ann Janus of Atlanta and a grandson, Oded Gordon of New York. Myron Goldberg M yron Goldberg, 73, of Des Plaines, Ill., died Monday, Feb. 3. He was the father of Mrs. Debor ah Feingold of Atlanta. Graveside service was held Thurs day, Feb. 6, at Shalom Memorial Park in Palatine, 111. A native of Chicago, he was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired truck line claim agent. Also surviving are his wife, Mrs. Eleanor Epstein Goldberg; sons, Richard Goldberg of Chicago and Larry Goldberg of Dallas, Texas; and nine grandchildren. Donations can be made to Congre gation Beth Shalom or the Hebrew Academy of Atlanta. Mrs. Rebecca Lischkoff Mrs. Rebecca Lishkoff, 81, of Atlanta died Wednesday, Feb. 12. graveside service will be held at noon, Friday, Feb. 14, at Green wood Cemetery, with Rabbi Arnold Goodman and Cantor Isaac Good- friend officiating. The widow of Israel Lischkoff, she was a member of Hadassah and Ahavath Achim Synagogue. Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Jean A. Ptak of Atlanta; son, Herman Lischkoff of Atlanta; sis ters, Mrs. Ida Creidman of Bir mingham, Ala., and Mrs. Ann Richman of Savannah; brother, Samuel Pollock of Miami; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Leo Eizenstat, 74. of Atlanta died Friday, Feb. 7. Funeral service was held Sun day, Feb. 9, at Spring Hill Chapel with Rabbi Harry H. Epstein, Rabbi Arnold Goodman and Can tor Isaac Goodfriend officiating. Interment was at Greenwood Ceme tery. His son, Stuart E. Eizenstat, delivered the eulogy. A native Atlantan, Mr. Eizen stat was co-owner, with his brother Berry, of Berle Shoe Co. He was an army veteran of World War II. He grew up in a very traditional environment in Atlanta and trained under some of the best rabbinic minds in Atlanta at the time, in cluding the late Rabbi Tobias Geffen. Even as a youth, Leo Eizen stat was noted for his Jewish scho larship and shortly after his bar mitzva he was accorded the rare privilege of leading the Friday Mrs. Edith Spector Aronoff Mrs. Edith Spector Aronoff, 81 of Atlanta died Thursday, Feb. 6. Graveside service was held Fri day, Feb. 7, at Greenwood Ceme tery, with Rabbi Harry H. Epstein and Cantor Isaac Goodfriend officiating. She was a member of Ahavath Achim synagogue. Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Aronoff of Atlanta; son, Melvin Aronoff of Atlanta; sister, M rs. Ruth Conn of East Moline, Ill.; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews. night service at Shearith Israel Syn agogue. He was also known for the beauty of his voice and was in tne choir at Shearith Israel and laterat Ahavath Achim Congregation under Cantor Selsky. A long time member of Ahavath Achim congregation, he was known for the beauty of his Haftorah readings. Mr. Eizenstat also had a vast knowlege of Yiddish and was one of the best Yiddish storytellers and humorists in the city. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sylvia Medintz Eizenstat; son, Stuart E. Eizenstat of Washington, D.C.; brother Berry Eizenstat of Atlanta; two grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Friends wishing to make a contri bution may do so to the Leo Eizen stat Memorial Fund at Ahavath Achim Synagogue which has been established by the family to endow an annual major lecture. Mrs. Rose Katz Klein Mrs. Rose Katz Klein, 85, of Atlanta died Wednesday, Feb. 12. Graveside service will be held at 1 I a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at Green wood Cemetery in Montgomery, Ala., with Rabbi Dave Nisson officiating. She was the widow of Marvin I. Klein. She was a member of Con gregation Agudath Israel in Montgomery. Survivors include her sister, M rs. Lena Laken of Atlanta; brothers, Ike Katz and Harry Katz, both of Atlanta; nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sylvia Waltman Mrs. Sylvia Waltman died in Miami on Thursday, Jan. 30. The widow of Irving Waltman, she was honored many times for her charitable work with Deborah in New York.
