An event of cordial interest
to a large circle of friends was
the marriage last Sunday of
Miss Sylvia Mendel to Dr. Harry
Parks, solemnized at the home
of the bride’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs. H. Mendel on Briarcliff
Road. Rabbi Harry H. Epstein
officiated in the presence of the
immediate families and a few
friends. Appropriate musical
selections were rendered by
Cantor M. Landman.
The bride’s mother was matron
of honor, and Miss Dorothy
Mendel, a twin sister, served as
maid of honor. Mr. Sydney
Parks, brother of the groom,
acted as best man. Ushers were
Mr. Harry Mendel and Mr.
Alvin Kaplin.
Miss Betty Anne Romm, niece
of the bride, was flower girl,
and Master Jerry Mendel, nephew,
carried the ring.
The bride was given in mar
riage by her father, Mr. H.
Mendel. She was attired in a
grey silk ensemble trimmed with
grey fur, accessories to match,
and carried a muff of orchids
and valley lilies.
Mrs. Parks is a graduate of
Girls’ High School, and attended
the University of Alabama and
Ohio State University.
Dr. Parks attended Boys’ High
School and received his bache
lor of science degree and M.D.

degree at Emory University, later
interning at the Grady Hospi
tal, where he served on the resi
dent staff. He is also a member
of the Alpha Epsilon Pi and Phi
Delta fraternities.
Following the ceremony, Dr. and
Mrs. Parks left for Boston, Mass.,
where Dr. Parks will continue'
his medical training at the Peter
Bent Brigham hospital and Harvard
Medical school.

Fifty years larer
Atlantans Sylvia and Harry
Parks recently celebrated their
50th wedding anniversary with
their children and grandchild
ren at a brunch in their honor.
The Parks have just returned
from a trip to Vienna as part of
their anniversary celebration.
Mrs. Parks, the former Syl
via Mendel, graduated from
Crew Street Elementary School,
Hoke Smith Junior High School
and Girls’ High School, all in
Atlanta. She attended Hebrew
School and Sunday School at
Ahavath Achim Synagogue. She
studied at the University of
Alabama and Ohio State
University.
She is a past president of the
Ahavath Achim Sisterhood, a
life member of Hadassah and
Brandeis Women. She received
her real estate agent’s license in
1956 and a broker’s license in
1969.
Dr. Parks, a graduate of Boys’
High School in Atlanta, earned
a bachelor of science degree and
M.D. degree, both from Emory
University. He was an intern
and served as a resident at Grady
Memorial Hospital. He was a
voluntary assistant at Peter Bent
Brigham Hospital in Boston, a
resident in medicine at Robert
Dawson Evans Memorial Hos
pital and an instructor in medi
cine at Tufts Medical School.
He has practiced internal
medicine with a specialty in
cardiovascular diseases in At-
...and today.
lanta since 1939. He has been
honored by the Georgia Heart
Association Clinic, and the
Grady Cardiac Clinic three
times, the latest in 1979 for 40
years of continous service.
The Parks have three child
ren, Bert, Phyllis and Stephen,
and four grandchildren.
