The Bat Mitzva of Danielle
Ann Shapiro of Marietta will
take place at 10:30 a.m. Satur
day, March 22, at Temple Kol
Emeth. A congregational kid-
dush will follow.
Danielle is the daughter of
Jeffrey E. and Sharon Shapiro.
She is the granddaughter ot the
late Arthur and Lillian Fisch-
man of New York, and Sidney
Shapiro of Atlanta and Jacque
line Shapiro of West Palm
Beach, Fla.
The 1985-86 pledge class of
Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity, Omi-
cron chapter, at the University of
Georgia, was recently initiated.
Officers are Mark Fishman, presi
dent; Adam Frank, vice president:
Michael Tractman, scribe; and
Eric Sidewater, treasurer.
Also initiated were Mark
Adams, Sandy Barocas, Tod Bett-
man, Michael Braun, Lee Cohen,
Phil Cohen, Howard Dulitz, Mike
Falk, David Fine, Josh Frank, Jeff

Dr. Samuel E. Tourial has been
selected as the 1986 Spring Special
Event chairman for Lilburn by the
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. He
will conduct a Bike-A-Thon on
April 5 to raise funds for cystic
fibrosis research.
He is the son of Pat and Ely
Tourial of Atlanta.

David Kaye of Westlake Village,
Calif., was elected president for
1986 of United Synagogue Youth
at its 35th annual international
convention, attended recently by
close to 1,200 high school students
from all over North America.

Sidney E. Cohn, senior partner
of the New York law firm of Cohn,
Glickstein and Lurie, will receive
the American Jewish Congress
1986 Justice Award at a testimon
ial dinner to be held in New York
City.
Cohn began his legal career as a
labor lawyer, and is today counsel
to a number of unions.
Rabbi Sholom Strajcher, for
merly rabbi of Congregation B’nai
B’rith Jacob and principal of the
Savannah Hebrew Day School,
and now headmaster of the
Hebrew Day School of Provi
dence, R.I., was recently honored
by Torah Umesorah, the national
society for Hebrew day schools,
with its Innovator's Award.
The Bar Mitzva of Ryan
Alan Berg of Atlanta will take
place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday,
March 22, at The Temple. A
congregational kiddush will
follow.
Ryan is the son of Jeffrey and
Sandi Berg. Grandparents are
David Berg of Miami and the
late Gertrude Berg, and the late
Sanford Levkoff of Miami.
Natalie B. Wilensky of Atlanta,
a senior at Dartmouth College in
Hanover, N.H., has been cited by
her English professor for outstand
ing academic achievement during
the past term.
Faculty are invited to submit
citation reports only when a stu
dent’s work is sufficiently distin
guished to merit special recogni
tion. Such citations are rare, and
relatively few are submitted each
term.
Natalie, daughter of Larry and
Sheila Wilensky, is a 1982 gradu
ate of the Westminster School. At
Dartmouth, she is a member of
Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority
and has served as its representative
to the Inter-Fraternity Council.
She received one previous citation,
in a computer science course, and
is a government major. She has
also served as a representative to
the Student Assembly.

Dr. David Applebaum. chief
medical officer of the Magen
David Adorn Paramedic Emer
gency Medical Service in Jerusa
lem, recently received special
recognition from the State of Israel
when he became the recipient of
the “Quality of Life” award from
the speaker of the Knesset.
Dr. Applebaum, formerly of
Cleveland, Ohio, was cited by the
Knesset for his dedication and sac
rifice in dealing with critical pre-
hospital emergencies and perform
ing emergency operations under
extremely adverse conditions.

Pressman of Atlanta will take
place at 10 a.m. Saturday,
March 22, at Congregation
Beth Shalom. A congregational

Helayne is the daughter of
Alice and Michael Pressman.
Grandparents are the late Tiilie
and Myer Morris of Dalton,
Ga., and the late Florence and
Hyman Pressman of Charlotte.

Walter L. Crimm, son of the late
Janet and Reuben G. Crimm of
Atlanta, has been appointed an
associate in the Philadelphia archi
tectural firm of Bower, Lewis,
Thrower.
Walter is a graduate ol the
Westminster Schools and received
his degree in architecture at the
University of Pennsylvania in Phi
ladelphia. His design work has
been used in national ads by the
internationally known Pell Com
pany, and he is design architect
and project manager for the Mar
riott Hotel, Princeton, N.J.
Anne and Sidney Silver, formerly of Atlanta, now of Winter
^prings, Fla., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a
dinner dance on Feb. 22 in Orlando.
Among those celebrating with the Silvers were their daughter,
Qrecn < Madrid, Spain, and friends and relatives.

Anita and Jeffrey Stein of
Atlanta announce the birth of a
daughter, Emma Marea, on Feb,
20.
Grandparents are Rebecca and
Henry Birnbrey of Atlanta, and
Pearl Stein of Birmingham, Ala.,
and the late Hyman Stein. Great
grandmother is Mrs. Faye Kaitcer
of Shreveport, La.
Emma was given the Hebrew
name Aliza Miryam in memory of
her maternal great-grandmother,
Emma Kresses, and her paternal
great-great-aunt, Marea Nathan.

Judy and Shai Kobkin of
Atlanta announce the birth of a
son, Ayal Chen, on Feb. 27.
Grandparents are Rebecca and
Henry Birnbrey, and Ozna and
Max Robkin, all of Atlanta.
Ayal was named in memory of
his paternal great-aunt, Alberta
Robkin, and his maternal cousin,
Chester Corson.

Decatur, Ala., announce the birth
of their third daughter, Jessica
Hali Denbo, on Feb. 20.

Ivan Aronin of Atlanta, a
senior at the Henry Grady
Journalism School at the Uni
versity of Georgia, recently won
an award from the U.S. Tennis
Writers Association in New
York City for his coverage of
the Masters Tennis Tourna
ment. He also won a sportswrit-
ing award from the Georgia
College Press Association.
He was sports editor for the
university’s “Red and the
Black’’ in the fall. Currently
copy editor, he covered the
Kemp trial in Atlanta.
He is the son of Paul and
Bonnie Aronin.
Daniel K. Epstein, son of Dr.
and Mrs. Howard V. Epstein of
Atlanta, has joined the Boston
office of Price Waterhouse. Daniel
graduated cum laude from Geor
gia State University in December
1985, and has since passed certified
public accountant examination.

Rabbi Stanley M. Davids of
Worcester, Mass., who will be
come senior rabbi of Central Syn
agogue in New York City in July,
was named chairman of the Israel
Bonds National Rabbinic Cabinet
at its recent annual meeting in
Miami Beach.
