The session was part of an ongoing series of meetings with Georgia’s elected officials, sponsored by the Georgia Israel Public Awareness Network (GIPAN). According to GIPAN chairman, A. I. Shultz tries diplomacy at funeral in Sweden JERUSALEM (JTA)—Secre tary ol State George Shultz at tempted some conciliatory diplo macy between Israel, a sworn Arab enemy of Israel, and the Soviet Union with mixed results—at the funeral in Stockholm last Sat urday of Prime Minister Olof Palme of Sweden. Prime Minister Shimon Peres related the events to the Cabinet Sunday, which included a “meet ing" with Talib Ibrahimi, the for eign minister of Algeria. Peres said he was greeted by Shultz in the building where world leaders attending the funeral were housed. Shultz, invited Peres into his suite where he discovered that the secretary had a guest—Ibra himi. He said the Algerian diplo mat seemed extremely embar rassed when Shultz introduced them and encouraged them to shake hands. The Algerian foreign ministerypromptly denied any handshake with the prime minister of the “Zionist entity.” Peres told the Cabinet that Shultz and former West German Chancellor Willy Brandt, chair man of the Socialist International, both tried to arrange a meeting between him and Andrei Gromyko who was also attending the fun eral.
