Jerusalem Art Contest
Judith A. Resnik
What You Do: Draw a picture of Jerusalem. It can be a picture of
anything that has to do with Jerusalem - a street scene, people in
Jerusalem, Jerusalem landmarks, or anything you choose on the
subject. You must draw with a pencil or a black felt-tipped pen
on white paper only (no crayons!).
Your entry must include your picture and your name, complete
address, and age. (You must be 6-12 years old to enter.) All entries
become the property of NOAH’S ARK and cannot be returned.
When Judith A. Resnik was
a child in Akron, Ohio, she was
not much different from any
other Jewish child. She went
to religious school, celebrated
her Bat Mitzvah, and con
tinued in Hebrew school until
she graduated from high
school.
Send your complete entry to: NOAH’S ARK, Art Contest,
7726 Portal, Houston, Texas 77071.
Deadline: April 10, 1986.
What made Judith Resnik different, though, was that she grew
up to become the first Jew in space. Now she is a hero to people
everywhere, because she was one of the seven American crew
members who died when the space shuttle Challenger exploded
after lift-off.

Two Months
Of Joy!
Answers To
Crossword Puzzle
Smile! It’s Adar! The Tal
mud tells us that when the
Hebrew month of Adar comes,
we will have more happiness!
This year is a leap year on the
Jewish calendar, which means
we have two months of joy -
Adar I and Adar II!
The reason we have a leap
year is so that the Jewish calen
dar can catch up with the regu
lar calendar. Jews use a lunar
calendar, which means we mea
sure time using the cycle of
the moon. The calendar most
people use is the solar calendar,
which means time is measured
by the cycle of the sun. Be
cause the solar year has 365
days and the lunar year has
354 days, an extra month must
be added to the Jewish calen
dar every few years. If we
didn’t, Passover might be cele
brated in September or Chanu
kah could be celebrated in
August!
More will be printed about
the Jewish calendar in an up
coming issue of NOAH’S ARK.
But meanwhile, smile - it’s
still Adar!
