Actress Patricia Neal (second from right) accepts the B'nai B’rith Women Perlman Award for Human Advancement for her work in rehabilitating the handicapped. Rabbi Yossi New. director of Chabad of Georgia, made the announce ment. Ms. Pruss. who is from Brook lyn, N.Y., has served on the staff of Gan Israel camps in Kansas City, Mo., and Denver, Colo. Last year Ms. Pruss was chosen by the Beth Rivkah Sem inary in New York to partici pate in a one-year teachers’ program at the Jewish Day School in Sydney. Australia. She also assumed the role of head counselor at the Jewish community summer camp in Sydney. Ms. Pruss is currently in volved in post graduate studies at the Beth Rivkah Seminary. Harold Cohen, president of Ke- hillah Lodge of B'nai B'rith. was named Outstanding Lodge Presi dent for 19X5 in the state of Geor gia. I he award was presented at the recent Georgia B’nai B’rith Con vention. Kehillah is one of u lodges and units in the state. Jonathan is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Joel Goldstein. Grand parents are Mr. and Mrs. Max W. Hitchman and Mrs. Lillian Goldstein, all of Baltimore, and the late Bernard Goldstein. Norman Lamm, president of Yeshiva University in New York City, has been awarded the Corn ing Glass Works Higher Education Leadership Award in Albany. Lamm has been president of Yeshiva University since 1976. The award, a Steuben Glass Apple, was presented during the 1986 annual meeting of the Com mission on Independent Colleges and Universities, which is the official coordinating body and pub lic policy forum for 1 16 independ ent institutions of higher education in New York State. The Corning award honors chief executive of ficers for important contributions to higher education in this state. The Bat Mitzva of Michele Elizabeth Lesser of Atlanta will take place at 8:30 a.m. Satur day, April 1 2, at Shearifh Israel Synagogue. A congregational kiddush will follow. Michele is the daughter of Dr. Laurence M. and Alayne Lesser. Grandparents are Lay and David Wasserman of New York and Rose and Eli Lesser of Key Biscayne, Fla. She will share her Bat M itzva with Esther Essas of the Soviet IJ nion. Robert L. Israeloff of Hewlett Bay Park, N.Y., was elected to a third one-year term as president of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid So ciety ( H1 AS), at the agency’s 106th annual meeting, on March 12 in New York City. Speaker at the event was Morris B. Abram, chair man of the National Conference on Sov iet Jewry. Irving Haber was re-elected as HI AS’ vice president of finance and assistant secretary. Benjamin was given the Hebrew name Reuven Benyomin in mem ory of his maternal grandfathers, Benjamin Pollock and Robert Becker. The bris was performed by Rabbi Phillip Weinberger of Anshe Sha lom Synagogue in New Rochelle, N.Y Jerusalem Post correspondent Wolf Blitzer will receive a Com municator’s Award at the JWB Biennial convention which will be held in Toronto from April 9-13. Blitzer, whose articles frequent ly appear in The Southern Israe lite, is the Washington Bureau chief of the Jerusalem Post and has been covering the Washington for eign policy scene since the 1973 Yom Kippur War. He is the author of the highly acclaimed book. “Between Wash ington and Jerusalem: A Repor ter’s Notebook.” His television appearances in clude “Nightline,” Good Morning, America,” “Overnight,” “McNeil- Lehrer News Hour” and “Washing ton Week in Review.”
