Joe Cuba will be honored
at Epstein School dinner
“Coming of Age.” the theme ot
this year’s annual Epstein School
Founders’ Dinner, will commemo
rate the school’s 13th year.
The dinner, which w ill be held at
7 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, at the
Ahavath Achim Synagogue, will
honor Joe Cuba, a devoted worker
for the Atlanta Jew ish community.
Cuba, a native Atlantan, has
long been involved in Jewish edu
cation and community service. As
a voung man, he served as presi
dent of the the Southeast Region
of Young Judaea and was a vice
president of National Young Ju
daea.
He is a graduate of Georgia l ech
and Atlanta Law School. After
being admitted to the bar and pass
ing the CPA exam, he joined his
brother Max to form the account
ing firm of Max M. Cuba and
Company. The firm merged with
the international accounting firm
of Laventhol & Horwalh in 1969.
Cuba is a past president of the
Joe Cuba
Bureau of Jewish Education, the
Jewish Home, Gate City Lodge of
B’nai B’rith. Congregation Aha
vath Achim, the Southeast Region
of United Synagogues of America
and the Alumni Association of
Georgia State University. He was
also president of the Progressive
Club during the construction of its
Techwood Drive facility. He is
currently treasurer of the Jewish
Tower and is a trustee of the Geor
gia State University Foundation
Inc.
He was chairman of the con
struction committees for Camp Bar
ney Medintz, Ahavath Achim Syna
gogue and the Jewish Home.
Cuba is recipient of many awards
and honors, one of the most nota
ble of which was the B’nai B’rith
Distinguished Service Award which
he received in 1966.
In I975, Cuba and his late wife,
Ida Pearle, were the recipients of
the David Ben-Gurion Award at
the Ahavath Achim Israel Bonds
Dinner.
Cuba has three children and two
grandchildren.

There will be 125 people in the
Metro Atlanta area committed to
the entire series. Throughout the
year, they will participate in wor
ship at seven different congrega
tions. Each “dialogue day” will
consist of the following schedule.
• The whole group will worship
together.
• After worship, the large group
will be broken down into small
groups of seven.
• The small group will go to the
home of a host family for a light
brunch focusing their discussion
on the family religious traditions
and worship experiences.
• After two hours in the home, the
large group will reconvene at the
host synagogue/church to hear a
short presentation by a clergy
person and a lay person.
• After the two brief presentations,
the whole group will dialogue
with one another and ask ques
tions.
• After a short break, the day will
end with worship.
In addition, there will be a picnic
in July for the 125 and their tami-
lies at the Hellenic Center On
Sunday, Nov. 23, at Interdenomi
national Theological Center, there
will be an interfaith Thanksgiving
service. Information can be secured
