Walk for Israel
On Sunday, May 18, the Atlanta Jewish Community
Center will hold a community wide celebration in honor
of Israel’s 38th birthday. Entitled “Passport To Israel,”
the day’s activities will begin at 10a.m. and end at 5 p.m.,
offering something for the entire family.
As part of the day’s happenings, there will be a Walk
for Israel. (Many othei communities in the United States
and Canada will also be walking on this day). Partici
pants may walk the full six miles, three miles, or a one
mile symbolic walk for those unable to walk the full
distance. The full walk will wend its way to Ahavath
Achim Synagogue (Peachtree Battle and Northside
Drive) and then back to the AJCC Peachtree building,
approximately 10 kilometers, or approximately six miles.
Walkers will be asked to secure sponsors who will
donate, in the walker’s name, a minimum of 50 cents a
mile for each mile completed. ALL PROCEEDS TO
BENEFIT THE STATE OE ISRAEL!
Although whatever funds are raised are important as
a gesture of our financial support to Israel, more
important is showing to the people of Atlanta, the state of
Georgia, and the entire world, that the Jews of Atlanta,
Israel, and of the world are ONE! 1Trough the eyes of the
news media’s cameras and reports, walkers can show
support for Israel. We hope that the Jewish community
comes out in large numbers on May 18. The walk begins
at 1:30 p.m. in order to encourage entire families to walk
together.
What’s New in H & PE
Exciting new things are happening in the area of
Health & PE at the Center.
Atlanta is probably the first Center in the country to
install artificial turf on one of its Tittle League infields.
Thanks to Randy Feinherg, president of Southeastern
Tennis Courts, the installation of this artificial turf was
made possible.
J he Leonard Jacobs field at Zaban Park is getting a
new look. Installed this year is a new fence and backstops.
Thanks to the Jacobs family, and the Leonard Jacobs
Lund, the Center now has a beautiful and first class ball
field for our children to play on.
Also new is the Zaban Fitness Center, which will hold
a grand opening on April 20. Drop in and see the new
Nautilus and Life Cycles and talk to the Center’s fitness
specialists about starting a fitness program. Remember,
research has proved that a regular exercise program will
add years to your life!
