Women’s ORT donor party
will pay tribute to Camhis
Women’s American ORT honorees Bea and Murray Camhi.
Contributors to the 1985-86
Donor Event of the Atlanta Region
of Women’s American ORT will
be honored at a wine and dessert
party at the home of Sol and David
Blumenthal of David Incorporated
on Sunday, April 20. at 7:30 p.m.
The evening will include a spe
cial tribute to Bea and Murray
Camhi for their deep commitment
to the continuance of Jewish life
and their devotion to the programs
of ORT.
The Camhis. who both grew up
in New York City and were married
there 45 years ago, moved to At
lanta in 1968.
Their move to Atlanta was a
business decision. Both being of
optimistic natures, they took what
they refer to as a “giant step” leav
ing behind their families and
friends of years standing, to relo
cate in a community where they
knew no one. They presumed every-
body and everything was on
“Peachtree Street.”
Today they marvel at their great
metropolitan city of Atlanta. They
escort visitors around as though
they discovered it.
It did not take too long before
they became members of a syn
agogue. They joined Or VeShalom
where they have developed loving
and caring friendships.
They are supporters of many
Jewish endeavors, including the
Jewish Federation, the Jewish
Home, Jewish National Fund, Ha-
dassah. Sisterhood and, of course.
Women’s American ORT.
It was at a Sisterhood Luncheon
that Ann Galanti first mentioned
to Bea her interest in ORT. Bea
listened intently to Ann’s vivid
account of the wonderful work of
the ORT organization that pro
vides quality skill training to peo
ple of all ages throughout the
world. This training enables OR I
students to become productive,
self-sufficient, members of society
fostering independence and self-
worth. Ann told of the Jewish stu
dies programs that are an integral
part of an ORT education as well.
and that ORT sometimes provides
the only link between the student
and the rich Jewish heritage.
In no time Bea was the newest
member of OR T and helped form
the new chapter, Mid Atlanta,
serving as president for three years.
Bea’s commitment did not end on
the chapter level; she went on to
serve the Atlanta Region as vice
president/donor chairperson, and
for the past two years as Capital
Funds/Golden Circle chairperson.
She has made ORT her No. 1 prior
ity, and is credited with inspiring
others, through her involvement in
ORT, to contribute thousands upon
thousands of dollars to the pro
gram.
Her fundraising efforts are re
nowned from coast to coast and
reach even to the far corners of
South Africa! The impact she brings
to the Atlanta community is motiva
tional.
According to Beth Smith, presi
dent of ORT’s Atlanta Region:
“Those of us who know the Cam
his feel truly blessed to have the
privilege.” And, in Bea’s own
words, “As Murray and my paths
have crossed with many Atlanta
OR fists through the years, our list
ot warm friendships keeps grow
ing. Together we express our grate
fulness for each and every one.”
Anyone interested in learning
more about ORT or attending the
Donor evening, can contact the
ORT office at 252-6309.
