A salute to Yeshiva
Dr. Herbert Cohen (left), dean of Yeshiva High School, and Larry Bogart, school president, display
the “Exemplary School Award” flag Yeshiva received for the 1984-85 school year. The award flag,
sponsored by the Council for American Private Education, was presented at a dinner held recently at Beth
Jacob Synagogue. Only 65 schools in the United States were recognized as “exemplary.”
Shearith Israel motivates teens
Congregation Shearith Israel is
again sponsoring its annual Judaic
Pledge/Teen Sign-Up Program. The
project, which has gained national
attention through articles in the
Pedogagic Reporter, is a method
to keep young people involved in
synagogue and Jewish educational
activities.
This year as in the past, seventh
grade religious school students are
required to commit themselves to
continuing their synagogue and
educational activities through a
number of options. Seventh grade
day school students are also strong
ly encouraged to participate in the
Dance workshop slated
at Temple Emanu-EI
Temple Emanu-EI will present a
workshop by Shlomo Bachar, teacher,
choreographer and dancer at 8
p.m. Saturday, April 26.
Bachar was born in Jerusalem
and is a fifth generation sabra.
Schooled in Jerusalem, he became
involved in dance and drama at an
early age. While in the army, he
was in charge of an entertaining
group that performed for the front
lines. A member of the National
Theater of Israel, Habima, he spe
cialized in acting and choreogra
phy.
He is the director-choreogra
pher of the Hadarim, Israeli dance
and song theater which has per
formed in the U.S. since 1962. The
Hadarim is now the official dance
group of the University of Judaism
in Los Angeles.
Bachar is co-founder of Camp
Shalom which is held twice a year
in New York and California.

AJCC Players to perform
Hopkins’ musical review
The Atlanta Jewish Community
Center Adult T heatre Group, Cen
ter Players, will present “Music
and Lyrics By...,” a musical review
written and directed by Rand Hop
kins.
It will be performed at 9:15 p.m.
Saturday, May 3, and Saturday,
May 10, and at 8 p.m. Wednesday,
May 7, and Thursday, May 8.
Hopkins, an award-winning At
lanta playwright, wrote and di
rected “The Boy King,” which aired
as a television special last January,
as well as “J he Jop Ten,” which
premiered at Atlanta’s Israel Expo.
His “1 Will” tours Europe this
summer. These and other works
have played Off-Broadway, at the
Kennedy Center, Ford’s Theatre,
Goodman Theatre and Beverly Hills
Playhouse.
The review will take place in a
cabaret setting. Tickets are $10
each or a table for eight can be
reserved for $75. Wine and cheese

Peachtree Lodge #100, Knights
of Pythias, will host a traditional
Passover Seder Dinner at 8 p.m.

The sisterhood of Congregation
Etz Chaim will hold a second night
Passover Seder at 6:30 p.m. Thurs
day, April 24. at the synagogue.
Rabbi Shalom Lewis will con
duct the service. Dinner will be
catered by Patricia Singer’s “Do It
In the Kitchen.”
