Musical Review
COME TO MY SEDER. Recorded by Paul Zim with the
Hillcrest Jewish Center Youth Chorale. Simcha, 1986.
Suggested for all ages. $9.95.
An exciting new cassette tape is available for children (and
adults). This cassette includes the entire seder, which is great for
having your own “model seder ”. By listening to the tape and singing
along, you can learn all of the songs that will be sung during your
seder. But even if you already know the songs, you 11 enjoy listening
to the tape because it is entertaining. It includes well-known Pass-
over songs, as well as some new ones.
Paul Zim is a cantor at the Hillcrest Jewish Cen
ter in Queens, New York. He’s also a well-known
entertainer who has been called the “Voice of
Jewish Soul”. “I want to keep alive all types of
Jewish music,” Cantor Zim said. He especially
likes to write and sing songs for young people. He
made the seder tape because he wanted to enter
tain the listener as well as make a valuable teach
ing tool for old and young alike.
Come To My Seder includes the voices of 25 boys and girls,
aged 8 to 13. The Youth Chorale are students of Cantor Zim’s, and
have been singing with him for IV2 years. They sometime sing with
him at concerts, and at special Shabbat services at the Hillcrest
Jewish Center synagogue.
Come To My Seder can be ordered from Enjoy-A-Book Club,
P. 0. Box 101, Woodmere, New York 11598. Your check for $9.95
includes free shipping and handling, and a Hebrew-English
Haggadah.
Jewish Schools Buy Trees In Israel
In Memory Of Astronauts
Students from hundreds of Jewish schools are contributing
towards a forest in memory of the Challenger space shuttle astro
nauts. The forest was created bv the Jewish National Fund and will
be located in the American Independence Park in Israel.
At Rodeph Shalom Day School in New York City, students from
Jo Kay’s fourth and fifth grade classes bought trees and also wrote
essays about the space tragedy. One example came from fifth grader
Maurice Recanati, who wrote, “(Teacher) Christa McAuliffe was all
of us, so when she died, all of us died a little too ... we must continue
the program in her honor.”
The American Independence Park was established just outside
Jerusalem in 1976, in honor of the 2()0th birthday of the United
States. Among the great Americans honored in the park are Presi
dents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. The park is near
the John F. Kennedy Memorial and Peace Forest.
Stu ents wishing to purchase trees in memory of the astronauts,
should send checks for $5.00 for each tree to the Jewish National
Fund office in their city, or to Jewish National Fund, 42 East 69th
Street, New York, New York 10021. Be sure to include a note with
your name and address, and write that you want to purchase trees in
memory of the astronauts.
