The Bar Mitzva of Marc
Daniel Sachs of Atlanta will
take place at 9 a.m. Saturday,
June 7, at Ahavath Achim Syn
agogue. A congregational kid-
dush will follow.
Marc is the son of Kathy and
Howard Sachs. He is the grand
son of Harry Tucker of Phila
delphia and the late Beatrice
Tucker, and Helen Sachs of
Paterson, N.J. and the late
Joseph Sachs.
Marc will share his Bar Mitzva
with Israel Shapiro of Lenin
grad, U.S.S.R.
Charles S. Ackerman, president
of Ackerman and Co., a real estate
development firm, will chair the
Atlanta Metropolitan Area Steer
ing Committee to support the U.S.
Holocaust Museum in Washing
ton D.C. The museum will open in
late 1988.
Ackerman serves on the board
of several institutions, including
Clark College, Oglethorpe Univer
sity, the Georgia World Congress
Institute and the American Jewish
Congress.

The Bat Mitzva of Lisa
Michelle Kanov of Atlanta will
take place at 10:30 a.m. Satur
day, June 7, at Temple Sinai. A
congregational kiddush will
follow.
Lisa is the daughter of the
Sara and Mark Kanov. She is
the granddaughter of Evelyn
and Philip Postelnek of Miami
Beach, and Selma and Ted
Kanov of North Miami Beach.
Lisa will share her Bat Mitzva
with Godbor Rabayev of the
U.S.S.R.
Opthalmologist Robert H. Mar-
mer of Sandy Springs, known for
his research contributions and suc
cess in the field of refractive surgery
for nearsightedness, farsightedness
and astigmatism, spoke at the First
International Symposium on Intra
ocular Lens, Implantation and Re
fractive Surgery held this month in
Moscow.

Dr. Richard Cohen of Atlanta,
an orthopedic surgeon, was one of
1 7 recipients of the American Jew
ish Committee Young Leadership
Awards presented recently duiing
the AJC’s 80th anniversary cele
bration in Washington.

Jason is the son of Debbie
and Stuart Finestone. He is the

and the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob
Lefkowitz of New Orleans.

of Roswell will take place at 10
a.m. Saturday, June 7, at Tem
ple Emanu-El. A congregational
kiddush will follow.
Brian is the son of Charles
and Barbara Litt. He is the
grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald
Wolf of Paramus, N.J., and
Mrs. Marion Litt of Hallen-
dale, Fla.
Judge and Mrs. Arnold Shulman stand beside a portrait of him
that was unveiled recently. The portrait of the retired chief judge of
the Court of Appeals of Georgia will be hung in the Court of
Appeals courtroom along with those of other former chief justices.

Louis Regenstein of Atlanta
received an honorary Doctor of
Humane Letters (Honoris
Causa) from Clark College
recently. As chairman and vice
chairman of Clark’s finance
committee, Regenstein engineered
changes in the college’s en
dowment management which
doubled its income. Clark Col
lege named Regenstein, on his
certificate, as “our most faithful
and long-serving trustee.”
An associate of the Atlanta
law firm of Kilpatrick and Cody,
Regenstein serves on the execu
tive committee of the Atlanta
Area Services for the Blind, as a
trustee tor the Atlanta Arts
Alliance and the American Jew
ish Committee, is Atlanta co-
chairman for the National
Council of Christians and Jews,
and has served as vice chairman
tor the High Museum of Art
and former treasurer for the
Atlanta College of Art.

the Council on Foreign Rela
tions, Atlanta Art Association,
Atlanta Symphony Guild,
Harvard Club of Atlanta, At
lanta Historical Society,

and Mrs. Morris Podolsky of
Pittsburgh, Pa., Mrs. Aurelia
Freeman of West Hartford,
Conn., and Eugene Freedman
of Providence, R. I.
Allison will share her Bat
Mitzva with Geulah Ginis of
Moscow.

Hillel David Gold of Savannah
was among more than 65 gradu
ates at the 92nd commencement
exercises May I I at the Jewish
Theological Seminary of America
in New York City.
He received a master of arts
degree from the rabbinical school
and was ordained a rabbi. Cur
rently working with the Fitzgerald
Hebrew Congregation in Fitzge
rald, Ga., Hillel plans to continue
as a congregational rabbi after
graduation.
Hisfather, Rabbi Raphael Gold,
who was assistant rabbi at Atlan
ta’s Ahavath Achim Synagogue in
the 1970s, was a 1952 graduate of
the rabbinical school.

Tom I.antos (D.-Calif.) will be
honored by San Francisco Men’s
ORT chapter at its fourth annual
award reception July 1 at the
Fairmont Hotel.
Lantos will receive the Ameri
can ORT Federation Community
Achievement Award “in recogni
tion of his consistent support of
justice and humanitarian ism.” The
ORT award was created to honor
individuals who have made out
standing contributions in the realm
of public service.
Lantos is a member of the House
Committees on Foreign Allairs,
Government Operations, and the
Aging, and serves as the ranking
majority member of the Subcom
mittee on Europe and the Middle
East. He is also chairman of the
U.S. congressional delegation to
the European Parliament Euro
pean Common Market.
