Weekday services at 8 a.m. at the AJCC: Mincha, 2:10 p.m. Community Beit Midrash meets at Beth Jacob Synagogue Sunday-Thursday, 8 p.m. Organizations ‘Cheer-up’ project Beth Priven inflates balloons for Emory Hillel’s “pick-me-up” project, by which parents were able to send cheer-up cards and balloon bouquets to the students before final exams. Beth, student vice president, conceived the idea. Aaron Shatzman, Hillel’s program director, sent a letter to 800 parents explaining the project, along with a response card. Over 200 returned the cards, with a $1 donation for Hillel. Some sent additional donations. Beth organized student volunteers to help inflate the balloons, and a van was rented to make deliveries. The program was considered an overwhelming success. Women’s ORT charters Gwinnett chapter Family Outreach Center is recruiting volunteers The Family Outreach Center, sponsored by National Council of Jewish Women, Atlanta Section, is now recruiting volunteers. The cen ter deals with child abuse and neg lect. families and individuals in cri sis, and offers community education programs. Weekly training sessions begin Monday, Sept. 15, from 9 a.m. to noon, for a period of 10 to 12 weeks. Call 255-3604 for more in formation. ‘Very Special People’ wash cars to aid home The Very Special People Group held a car wash Sunday, June 29, at the Atlanta Jewish Community Center. Proceeds were donated to the Atlanta Jewish Home. Participants included Isaac Benator, Mike Oberdorfer, Paul Bran, Sidney Neuhaus and Inna Konstantinovsky. Temple Sinai women install 1986-87 officers Temple Sinai Women’s Commit tee held its installation of officers at a luncheon and fashion show by Evann’s of the Galleria on June 2. Rabbi Jeffrey Lazar offered the opening prayer, and Rabbi Philip Kranz installed the officers. Officers are: Jan Cerel, chair person; Chris Ikenberg and Bar bara Lazar, secretaries; and Michele Shear, treasurer. Rabbi Kranz. offered the closing prayer. The event was coordinated by Betsy Rappaport, Paula Boze and Maxine Lederman. The Gwinnett Corners of Women’s American ORT will hold its charter signing and installation of officers at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 24, at Sadie Lane’s Restau rant in Gwinnett Place. Anyone interested in becoming a member is welcome. The new chapter—encompassing Stone Mountain, Duluth, Lilburn, Tucker and Norcross—expects to be a vital force in ORT’s educa tional programs worldwide.
