Mark Koffsky was recently elected national vice president for education of the National Conference of Synagogue Youth (NCSY), Cleveland, Ohio. Over 250 youths from around the country attended the conven tion, including nine from At lanta as part of Southern Re gion’s delegation of 30. Mark has been involved with NCSY in Atlanta, serving as vice president and president of the Taryag chapter. On the re gional level, Mark is vice presi dent for Junior NCSY, and has participated in many region al activities. Mark is a junior at Yeshiva High School, where he served as yearbook co-editor. He is the son of Edward and Lynn Koff- Rep. Douglas D. Barnard Jr., 10th Congressional district, addresses a meeting of the Georgia Israel Public Awareness Net work (GIPAN), a subcommittee of the Atlanta Jewish Federa tion s Community Relations Committee. Barnard, a member of the Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs, and Government Opera tions committees, discussed domestic issues, tax reform and the budgetary situation. * The program was the fifth in a continuing series of meetings with members of the Georgia Congressional Delegation. Pcim/c in the News Elaine Eve Taylor recently graduated from Wesleyan Uni versity in Middletown, Conn, with a bachelor of arts degree with honors from the College of Social Studies and the Depart ment of Sociology. She is the recipient of a Coro Fellowship granted by the Coro Founda tion, which was established to conduct research, education and training in public affairs. The Coro Fellows Program is a nine-month, full-time post graduate program providing participants with experience- based training in public affairs. Coro Fellows work in field as signments with government agencies, corporations, com munity organizations, labor unions and political campaigns. Ms. Taylor is one of only 12 Fellows on the East Coast and will be participating in the pro gram based in New York City. She is the daughter of Judith and Mark Taylor of Atlanta and is a graduate of the Lovett School. Wade H. Silverman, Ph.D., has joined the consulting staff of the Devereux Center in Georgia, as research consultant at the Kennesaw facility. The Devereaux Center is a 90- bed psychiatric hospital serving adolescents ages 12-18. Silverman is professor and head of the division of psychology at Emory University School of Medi cine, and chief of psychology, Emory University Hospital. Dr. Silverman lives in Stone Mountain with his wife, Marsha and children, Hayley and Dan. Newcomers Vicki and Stan Gutman of Tucker announce the birth of a daughter, Charlotte Melissa, on June 25. Grandparents are Louise and Isaac Habif of Atlanta and Ber nard Gutman of Roslyn, N. Y., and the late Charlotte Gutman. Ma ternal great-grandmother is Mary Dozetos of Atlanta. * * * Susan and Neil Gordon of At lanta announce the birth of a son, David William, on July 9. Grandparents are Vicky and Phil Berman, Betty Ann and Lee Shus- terman, all of Atlanta, and Helen and Bernard Gordon of New York. Great-grandparents are Celia Lerman of Atlanta, Gertrude Berman of Baltimore, Rubye Goldstein of Atlanta, and the late Abe Goldstein. David was named in memory of his maternal great-grandfathers, Louis David Berman and William Lerman. The bris was performed by Dr. Mark Safra. The Bar Mitzva of Steven Ira Eisenstein of Atlanta will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at Temple Emanu-El. A con gregational kiddush will follow. Steven is the son of Susan and Bernie Eisenstein. He is the grandson of Ethel and Saul Pearl of Memphis, Tenn., and Marion Stone of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and the late Israel Eisenstein. Steven will share his Bar Mitzva with Benjamin Beren- feld of Moscow, U.S.S.R. The Bar Mitzva of Jacob Berlin of Houston will take place Satur day, Aug. 2 at Congregation Bachurei Chemed in Long Beach, N. Y. A reception and dinner dance will be held Sunday, Aug. 31, at Congregation Kneseth Israel in Far Rockaway, N.Y. Jacob is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Arnold Berlin. Grandparents are David and Sarah Berlin of Atlanta, and Rabbi and Mrs. Jehuda Melber of Miami, and the late Jacob Blu- menfrucht. Great-grandmother is Mrs. Yachet Silber of Long Beach, N.Y. * * * * Rabbi Emanuel Feldman of Congregation Beth Jacob will be the scholar-in-residence at the an nual Torah Retreat sponsored by the Denver Torah Community Proj ect, on Aug. 16-17, in Denver, Col. Rabbi Feldman will lecture on “Public and Private Approaches to Serving G-d,” and “Observant Jews and Religious Jews: Are They Syn onymous?” He has served Congregation Beth Jacob since 1952. He is a member of the Bet-Din of America, and an associate editor of Tradition mag azine. The holder of a doctorate from Emory University, he serves as adjunct professor in Jewish law at the Emory University School of Law. * * * Dr. William Korey, director of international policy research for B’nai B’rith International, has been selected as the 1986 recipient of B’nai B’rith’s Julius Bisno Award for Professional Excellence. Korey, who is also an authority on human rights, has worked for B’nai B’rith for over 30 years. He joined the staff of the Anti-Defa mation League of B’nai B’rith in 1954. Ruth Rothfarb has been ap pointed Atlanta local arrange ments coordinator for the 16th Women’s American ORT Na tional Board Conference, to be held at the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel in November. Mrs. Rothfarb, a native of New York, joined what was then the newly formed Atlanta Chapter-at-Large in 1959, and immediately became the chap ter’s special projects chairman. Seven years later she was elected president of the chapter, and eventually, president of the Atlanta Region. Mr. Rothfarb is a member of the national executive commit tee of Women’s American ORT and serves as chairman of the Bramson ORT Technical Insti tute in New York. She is also actively involved in the work of the Women’s Division of Atlanta Jewish Federation.
