AJCC Peachtree senior volunteers honored at dinner
Over 140 guests at the Senior
Adult Volunteer Recognition
Dinner were “In the Mood” as they
danced and listened to the Eric
Schroeder Band and singing group,
the Atlanta Transit, perform music
from the 1940s.
Dinner was served by members
of the Senior Adult Lay Commit
tee, honoring those members who
contributed 100 hours of volunteer
service to the AJCC Peachtree
Program.
Shirley Brickman, chairperson,
presented certificates to the 26 men
and women whose efforts have
contributed to the ongoing success
of the Peachtree program. Those
honored were Lillian Austern,
Esther Berkman, Freda Braunstein,
Rebecca Caccavale, Lea Cohen,

B’nai Torah to hold
annual membership picnic
Congregation B’nai Torah will
hold its annual membership picnic
from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday,
Aug. 17, at Zaban Park. Hot dogs
will be served. Activities include
pony rides, face painting, a guitar
sing, relay races, balloons and more.
Cost is $3 for adults, $1.50 for
children. All members and inter
ested non-members are invited. For

North Suburban ORT
to lunch at Tower Place
The North Suburban Chapter of
Women’s American ORT will hold
a luncheon meeting at 10:30 a.m.
Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Hsu’s Gourmet
Chinese Restaurant in the lower
courtyard at Tower Place. Edith
Reilly, will speak on 18th century
porcelains and will display items
from her collection.

Joyful celebration
Campers and counselors participate in recent Shabbat ceremo
nies to celebrate 25 years and to dedicate AJECOMCE’s new ark at
Zaban Park. The ark doors were designed and built by AJE-
COMCE chairperson Laury Bagen. Tsofim Boys Groups 31 and
councelor Paul Nozick polished the ark for the ceremonies. The
dedication was made possible through the help of Robert Rosen
baum and Leab Rose.
Congregation Etz Chaim loaned the camp one of their Torahs
for the dedication.
AEPi at UGA
holds elections, banquet
The Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity at
the University of Georgia in Athens
held elections in May. Officers
elected were Kevin Wolff, presi
dent; Tommy Block and Glenn
Walder, vice presidents; Mark
Merlin, treasurer; Aaron Brian
Silverman, corresponding secre
tary; and Scott Taylor and Ed
Griffenhagen, pledge masters.
The fraternity won the Zeta
(Georgia Tech) Invitational Soft-
ball Tournament for the second
consecutive year, and were awarded
a trophy.
Brothers recognized at an awards
banquet in May were C.J. Young,
best athelete; Ron Schwartz, Fred
Loaf, Stan Miller and Mort Gilner,
distinguished alumni; Kevin Wolff,
best brother average; Mark Mer
lin, best pledge average; Lee
Dumont, best brother; Doug
Weinbach, best pledge; and Scott
Taylor, advisors award.
Catholic/Jewish groups
hold dialogue sessions
The American Jewish Commit
tee and the Roman Catholic Arch
diocese of Atlanta have been spon
soring monthly Catholic/Jewish
dialogue sessions. Group discus
sion provides the opportunity to
talk about each other’s religious
traditions, celebrations, life cycle
events, beliefs and concerns.
The dialogue groups are open to
all Jews and Catholics. If inter
