Rice of Fairburn, Ga., and the late Allan G. Rice of Newborn, Ga. Mrs. Irvin (Bernice) Daitch of Augusta was chosen as the 1986 “Sisterhood Woman of the Year” at the 20th anniver sary donor luncheon at Adas Yeshurun Synagogue. Mrs. Daitch has served in the sisterhood for 27 years. Sheila Segal of Philadelphia has been named the eighth editor of the Jewish Publication Society. * * * Dr. Lawrence Michael Arkin, son of Dr. and Mrs. Murray C. Arkin of Savannah, has been a- warded a doctor of medicine degree from the Medical College of Geor gia. He w ill intern at Memorial Med ical Center in Savannah. * * * Benjamin K. Victor of Savan nah has been honored for 73 years of continuous membership in Tra velers Protective Association of America. He joined the TPA in 1913 and was active in Savannah Post A until a few years ago. The Bar Mitzva of Eric Brian Medwed of Atlanta will take place at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Congregation B’nai Torah. A congregational kid dush will follow. Eric is the son of Gail and Butch Medwed. He is the grand son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Nussbaum, and Mrs. Anne Medwed, all of New York, and the late Morris Medwed. The Bat Mitzva of Sandi Renee Altmann of Atlanta will take place at 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 24. at Congregation Shea- rith Israel. Sandi is the daughter of Jeannine and Aaron Altmann. Grandparents are Sara and Al bert Israel of Brussels, Belgium, and the late Betty and Karl Altmann of Israel. Sandi will share her Bat Mitzva with Marina Khait of Odessa, Soviet Union. Carin Shippel has been named to the dean’s list for the spring quarter at the Massachusetts Col lege of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences. She is the daughter of Allan and Pessie Shippel of Roswell. The Bat Mitzva of Amanda H, Blumenthal of Atlanta will take place at 8:30 a.m. Satur day, Aug. 23, at Ahavath Achim Synagogue. A congregational kiddush will follow. Amanda is the daughter of Elaine and Jerry Blumenthal and the granddaughter of Dr. and Mrs. A. A. Fink of Planta tion, Fla., and Mr. and Mrs. S.M. Blumenthal of Atlanta and Hilton Head, S.C. Savannah attorney Jeff Rubnitz has joined the Friedman, Haslam, Weiner, Ginsberg, Shearouse and Weitz law' firm as an associate member. He is a 1986 graduate of the University of Georgia law school and has an undergraduate degree from Emory University. Herman and Nina Fishman of Atlanta have purchased a gardtn of 200 trees to be planted in Israel through the Jewish National Fund, in honor of their “double chai” anniversary. The Bat Mitzva of Elissa Michelle Granath of Dunwoody will take place at 10 a.m. Satur day, Aug. 23, at Temple E- manu-El. A congregational kiddush will follow. Elissa is the daughter of Jac queline and Alan Granath. Grandparents are Stella and Alfred Granath of Margate, Fla., and the late Rhoda and Leon Weinstock of Flushing, N.Y. Great-grandmother is Dinah Elias of Brooklyn, N.Y. Elissa will share her Bat Mitzva with Tanya Lozanskaya of Moscow, U.S.S.R.
