dancing wife. Herbert is also a
Shriner clown and whenever pos
sible, Sylvia accompanies him dur
ing his volunteer work, also dressed
up. Herbert, otherwise known as
Herbey, The Singing Clown, has ap
peared with the Shriners at child
ren’s hospitals, community events,
and w herever he can be of service.
One of Herbert and Sylvia’s
greatest pleasures and priorities
includes their 30-member Atlanta-
based family which includes their
three grandchildren, 10-year-old
Eric, 6-year-old Jordy and 4-year-
old Shira. They are so thrilled with
the unity their family has and this
was certainly evident when The
Southern Israelite received
their nomination for this col
umn—unknown to the Broders—
from brother-in-iaw Jack Shenk.
Nothing seems to stop Herbert
and Sylvia from helping others and
their volunteerism has no bound
aries. Herbert even belongs as an
honorary member to the De Witt
Clinton High School Alumni Asso
ciation which raises money for
scholarships for deserving youth.
He didn't even go to this high
school and yet he wanted to be a
member so he could help out.
Herbert and Sylvia are also proud
of the reputation they created while
in business. Herbert created the
gown that Mrs. Weitzman wore
when Israel became a state.
“When we walk through the mall
people see us and say they miss us.
We have a good name and can
walk any place," said Sylvia. The
Broders’ caring for others, whether
through their family or their volur-
teerism, is clearly evident. In tact,
the day I interviewed them was a
particularly special day. A cousin
from Israel with whom they h id
corresponded over a period of 40
years was to arrive in Atlanta for a
three-week visit. Sylvia remembered
over the years sending packages
whenever there were hard times in
Israel and they were so thrilled
about finally meeting (heir Israeli
relative.
Where Herbert goes, so does
Sylvia, and likewise. This couple is
not only one of a kind, but two of a
kind. This includes one of the
nicest and most caring kind around
and w'e appreciate their efforts. To
Herbert and Sylvia, we say
L’Chaim...and may you continue to
pair up as the Dynamic Duo that
graces our community.
