Lester Pazol 20 YEARS HENNESSY JAGUAR CALL FOR A TEST DRIVE 261-5700 Three members of Temple Sinai are among the first four Reform Jews in the country to be honored for completing a new course of study in adult Jewish education developed by the Union of Ameri- can Hebrew Congregations (UAHC).The UAHC represents 801 Reform synagogues in the United States and Canada. The three Atlantans are Libby Roseman, Nathan Cohen and his wife, Mildred. Each received a KEVA citation from the UAHC’s department of education for suc cessfully completing a minimum of 100 hours of adult Jewish study. The KEVA program, inaugurated last fall, is named for Hebrew word in the ancient maxim, “Establish a It’s a dream come true fixed (keva) time for your study of Torah.” Rabbi Philip N. Kranz, spiritual leader of the 470-member Temple Sinai, praised the three congregants for being “among the very first who have earned recognition for commitment to lifelong Jewish edu cation.” Rabbi Jeffrey B. Lazar, educational director of the syn agogue, serves as its coordinator for the new program. Mr. and Mrs. Cohen, Mrs. Rose- man and other winners of the cit ation will be publicly honored in October at a meeting in New York of the Reform Commission on Jewish Education, representing the UAHC, Central Conference of A- merican Rabbis and National Asso ciation of Temple Educators. Standing are Asher Senator, Mark Lichtenstein and Jon Winner. The AJCC recently held a kick off breakfast for GALA IV, which will be held Sunday, Nov. 15. Chairmen for the fundraising celebration are Ruth Rauzin and Dr. Jon Winner. Patron ticket chairmen are Joy Howard, Asher Benator and Mark Lichtenstein. This year’s event, the first held away from the AJCC, will take place at the Old Georgia Railroad Freight Depot. Patrons will ride on the New Georgia Railroad headed by old Engine No. 750. Beginning at Zero Milepost, a land mark erected in 1850 to mark the center of Atlanta, the train will continue on an 18-mile loop through old Atlanta. A light supper will be served on the train in newly renovated and restored rail cars, with entertain ment and music. The train will leave the depot at 7:15 p.m. and return to join the GALA IV cele bration at 9 p.m. Paul Mande’s orchestra will provide music for entertainment and dancing; desserts will be served. Funds raised at the event will be used to enhance programming and provide financial assistance for AJCC services.
