A congregational kiddush will follow. Mark is the son of Beverly and Morris Zoblotsky. Grand parents are Florence and David Rothstein of Jacksonville, Fla., Bessie Zoblotsky of Waco, Texas, and the late Joe Zoblot sky. Edwin Goldwasser was elected national commander of the Jewish War Veterans of the USA at its 91st national convention in Honolulu. Goldwasser, a Korean war veteran, has been active in the JWV for over 26 years. * * * Macon teenagers Sabrina Adler, Debra Cohen, Jonathan Held, Sharon Simon and Craig Rubin. who have recently returned from a summer in Israel, will be honored at Shabbat services and a special reception Saturday, Sept. 26, at Congregation Sherah Israel in Macon. Yitzhak Sordo, Israeli shaliach to the Atlanta Jewish community, will participate in the event, meet ing with and addressing the Jewish youth of Macon. Sloane Roxane Blair of Sa vannah recently received her bachelor of arts degree from the University of Georgia, where she was elected a member of Golden Key, Phi Kappa Phi and Alpha Epsilon Delta honor societies. She will continue her studies at the West Virginia University School of Medicine. Blair served as a volunteer to the Athens Division of Social Services, where she was involved with the tutorial program. She was a member of Delta Phi Epsilon sorority and the Ger man Club. She received aca demic recognition for outstand ing excellence in German, and has returned from spending the summer in Germany. Blair is the daughter of Max ine G. Blair of Savannah and the late Milton D. Blair. The Bat Mitzva of Jennifer Kaufman of Atlanta will take place at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at Ahavath Achim Synagogue. A congregational kiddush will follow. Jennifer is the daughter of Kenneth and Sandra Kaufman. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Saul Kaufman of Atlanta, Mr. and Mrs. A1 Levine of Charles ton, S.C., and Mrs. Max Levine of Charleston, and the late Max Levine. * * * New York attorney Seymour Reich was recently elected presi dent of B’nai B'rith International, the world’s largest Jewish service organization. J.L. (Jake) Goldstein of Mil- ledgeville was recently elected chairman of the Baldwin County Democratic Committee. Goldstein was also elected by city voters to serve another term on the board of Georgia Military Col lege as vice chairman. * * * Podiatrist Frederic C. Spector of Savannah has been board certi fied in foot and ankle surgery and conferred diplomate status by the American Board of Podiatric Sur gery. Thomas Neumann, director of the community service division of the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith, has been named direc tor of the agency’s intergroup rela tions division. * * * Thomas R. Pickering, the U.S. Ambassador to Israel, will be the keynote speaker at the American Friends of Haifa University’s 15th annual dinner on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at the Pierre Hotel in Manhattan. Newcomers Helaine and Andrew Lasky of Marietta announce the birth of a daughter, Bethany Arin, on Aug. 27. Grandparents are Buster and Hank Oxman of Atlanta, Marilyn Green of St. Louis, and Richard Lasky of St. Louis. Great-grandmothers are Fannie Herman of Nashville, Tenn., and Rose Margulis of St. Louis. Bethany Arin was named in memory of her great uncle, Ben jamin Kessler, and great-aunt, Ann Piassick. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth R. Sadler of Savannah announce the birth of a daughter. Rose Sara, on July 27. Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Hirsch of Savannah announce the birth of a son, David Samuel, on Aug. 20. Susan and Paul Suid announce the arrival of a daughter, Michelle Laurin, born Aug. 15. Grandparents are Gail and Jim Rones of Atlanta, and Betty and Millard Suid of Miami. Great grandmother is Tillie Fisher of Hollywood, Fla. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Harry Sugarman of Atlanta celebrated their golden anniversary on Aug. 23 at a dinner party at Colony Square Hotel hosted by their sons and their families. ♦ * * Susie and Joey Moskowitz of Marietta announce the birth of a daughter, Judith Ann. on June 22. Grandparents are Sara and Lou Moskowitz of Columbus, Ga., and Lois and Jacob Baer of Memphis, Tenn. Judith was named in memory of her aunt. Judith Ann Baer. Norman and Lenore Field of Fairburn announce the birth of a son, Jason Daniel on Aug. 6. Jason was given the Hebrew name Yakutiel Daniel in memory of his great-grandfather, Casper Rapkin and his great uncle, Daniel Mechlovich. * * * Shelley and Michael Reiner an nounce the birth of a son, Matthew Ross, on Aug. 28. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Kohn of Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Reva Reiner of Atlanta, and the late Oscar B. Reiner. Matthew was given the Hebrew name Moshe Carmel in memory of his great-grandmother. Rose Git- man. The bris was performed by Dr. Mark Safra, with Rabbi Sha lom Lewis officiating. Avner Yaniv, senior lecturer in political science at the University of Haifa, and a specialist in inter national security problems and Middle East affairs, has been ap pointed visiting Israeli professor at Georgetown University in Wash ington, D.C., for 1986-87. His ap pointment marks the 10th year that a distinguished Israeli scholar has joined Georgetown’s govern ment department. A native of Jerusalem, Yaniv was director of the Institute for Middle Eastern studies and chair man of the Jewish-Arab Center, both at the University of Haifa. Previously, he was director of a research project on the European community at the Jerusalem Van Leer Institute. The Bar Mitzva of Jeremy Chused of Atlanta will take place at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at Congregation B’nai Torah. A congregational kid dush will follow. Jeremy is the son of Tamara Fuchs and Paul Chused. He is the grandson of Mrs. Harriet Chused and the late Max Chused of Kinston, N.C., and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Sayles of Chesa peake, Va. Heather Rush, a senior at Yeshiva High School has been chosen as a semi-finalist in the 1987 National Merit Scholar ship Competition. Heather is the daughter of Dr. Robert and Rochelle Rush of Atlanta, Dan Pattir, former commun ications and public affairs ad viser to Prime Ministers Yitzhak Rabin and Menachem Begin, has been appointed executive director of the Jeane Kirkpa trick Forum for Public Leader ship and Public Policy at Tel Aviv Unversity.
