Atlanta, Georgia 30305 Atlanta Men’s ORT plans Lockheed tour, luncheon Members of Atlanta Men’s ORT will tour the facilities of Lockheed-Georgia on Wednesday, Sept. 24, to get a better idea of some of the skills being learned by ORT students at one of ORTs vocational training facilities, the Helen Asher School at Lod, Israel. While planning the event, Rich ard Bressler, ORT president, along with co-chairmen Marvin P. Nod- vin and Victor D. Maslia, wanted to give ORT supporters a first hand idea of the skills ORT can teach young men and women. Since they could not transport prospects to the School at Lod, they have arranged with Lockheed to pro vide a realistic demonstration in such areas as avionics, robotics and computer science. Dan Ziv Following the tour, a luncheon is scheduled at the Northwest Mar- riot, where two high-level speakers will brief attendees. Dan Ziv, the director of the ORT School at Tel Hashomer, Israel, will discuss the skills and trades vital to Israel’s defense and economic security. In addition, a representative of the U.S. State Department will pro- 11 vide participants with an up-to- the-minute picture of the Middle East situation. Limited space is available on the Lockhead tour for U.S. citizens, who need not be members of Atlanta Men’s ORT. Epstein School annual telethon sets fund-raising goal of $30,000 The Epstein School will kick off the season’s calendar of fund-raising events with its annual telethon Sunday, Sept. 28. Volunteers will be calling members of the Atlanta commun ity to “Say Yes” to becoming a friend of the Epstein School. The goal this year is to raise $30,000. All funds raised will go toward offsetting the deficit in operational expenses. As one of the more than 60 Solomon Schechter schools nation wide, the school’s dual curriculum combines traditional standards with current educational methods. The environment allows students to ex plore their dual heritage as Ameri cans and Jews. Co-chairmen of the telethon are Dave Abrams, Jeril Cohen, Brenda Daniels and Lynn Friedman. E.F. Hutton will host the volunteer callers at its Tower Place offices. Goldstein to be installed at annual Technion dinner A highlight of the annual dinner of the Atlanta Chapter of the Amer ican Technion Society—Israel In stitute of Technology will be the installation of the new president. The dinner will be held Sunday, Sept. 28, at the Peachtree Plaza Hotel. The reception will begin at 7 p.m. Dr. Marvin C. Goldstein will be installed as the chapter’s president. Dr. Ben T. Zinn is outgoing presi dent. Goldstein, a past president of Ahavath Achim Synagogue and the Atlanta Jewish Federation, is a long-time Atlanta philanthropist and active in many community and Jewish causes. Zinn reported that the Atlanta project of the ATS has completed the Aeronautical Engineering Pro ject and that the “leadership can be proud that it helped Israel join the club of nations building their own fighter aircraft, such as the Lavi fighter bomber. Without our help, Israel would not be as economi cally independent as it is.” Marvin Goldstein Marvin Kalb, NBC’schief diplo matic correspondent and modera tor of “Meet the Press,” will be the guest speaker.
