THE CENTERS HPOTS
from tho Atlanta Jewish Community Cantar, Inc
The United Way and Us
The United Way volunteers have just wrapped up a
three-hour visit to the AJCC to review our 1987 budget
and our allocation request. They spent the day having
lunch with our Seniors at Peachtree and then took a bus
ride over to Zaban, where they toured the Zaban facility
and saw the renovation taking place on our new Wein
stein Adult Day Services Center. On the way back after
their visit, their comments were uniformly complimentary.
This review is an annual procedure. The AJCC, as
well as over 60 other United Way agencies, are carefully
scrutinized by volunteers every year. In 1986, our Center
is receiving $320,000. Over the six years 1 have worked
here we have also been the beneficiary of thousands of
dollars in emergency monies to cover repairs of our roofs,
our boilers, to fix our driveways and any other unanticip
ated expenses related to our facilities.
We are indeed fortunate in Atlanta to have one of the
finest United Ways in America. Don Morgan, United Way
executive director, has created an open, highly profes
sional, creatively far-sighted, well-run operation. The
volunteers 1 have met have always been extremely sup
portive of the work of the AJCC. We are considered by
the United Way as one of their outstanding beneficiary
agencies, and we receive one of their largest allocations.
They have always reached out to me and our staff to
involve us in the planning process and are constantly on
the lookout for new people within our community to
become United Way volunteers.
The annual United Way drive is now on. 1 strongly
urge you to consider the following in determining this
year’s gift. One, that the AJCC, as well as the Jewish
Vocational Service and the Jewish Children and Family
Service, receive significant funds from the United Way
campaign. Two, there are over 60 other vital agencies,
including such services as Battered Women, Boy and Girl
Scouts, services to the blind, Red Cross, the Cancer
Society, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Diabetes, Planned
Parenthood, Retarded Citizens, counseling and legal ser
vices, etc., who all survive because of the United Way.
Three, the United Way serves not only DeKalb and Ful
ton counties, but has reached out into Cobb, Gwinnett
and other outlying areas. Four, without the United Way,
which last year raised over $32 million, our community’s
social services and health services networks would col
lapse, and we would all be seriously affected.
So, don’t treat the United Way as just another annual
campaign. It is the one campaign in Atlanta that serves
the entire community. Make your gift match their need.
A United Way
Agency.

How come we’re so good
at kosher catering ?
We know how to observe
the laws tastefully.
If only it were enough to be Atlanta’s
only hotel with a completely kosher
kitchen! After all, ours is sanctioned
by Orthodox rabbinic authority. And
a mashgiach oversees every superb
dish our chefs create.
But who knows how kosher is
kosher?
We do. We know the original laws
so well, we can follow them faithfully
and still prepare exciting dishes that
will be the envy of all your friends.
Our catering department at 659-1400,
extension 2458, can tell you all about
our kosher catering. They can also tell
you about our excellent facilities for
bar mitzvahs, has mitzvahs, weddings,
receptions, fund raisers —whatever.
You could simply make your next
event a kosher one. Then again, you
could make it kosher and have it at
The Westin Peachtree Plaza.
