Israel's new finance minister, Moshe Nissim, made his first public appearance in this country since assuming his key post in Israel's Cabinet in April. Sen. Joseph R. Suite 110/By Appointment Only Shearith Israel plans Bonds appeal Congregation Shearith Israel will join over l, 100 congregations throughout the United States and Canada in a 35-year tradition of conducting an Israel Bonds High Holy Day Appeal. Steve Merlin, president of Shea rith Israel, said that his congrega tion will be the first in Atlanta to hold such an appeal. It will take place at Shemini Atzeret Yizkor services on Saturday, Oct. 25. Merlin said that last year the appeals produced more than $48 million in bond subscriptions. The funds will help Israel to expand investment in industry, create new jobs and continue the nation’s eco nomic growth. This year worshipers will be urged to purchase an Individual Variable Rate Issue Bond and the special IVR1 Bond for IRAs. “IVRI Bonds stand on their own merit,” said Merlin. “With their competi tive interest rate, they are good for the purchaser and good for Israel." Since the inception of the lsiael Bonds campaign in 1951, the High Holy Day Appeals have been major source of loans to Israel.
