i Atlantans living in Israel 1 ® reflect on roots at reunion Over 75 former Georgians turned out for the third annual reunion of Atlantans living in Israel. Last month, in the garden of the Jerusalem regional office of the Association of Americans and Canadians (AACI), children, stu dents, young couples and retirees gathered to celebrate their com mon roots and Zionistic commit ment. While eating watermelon and cookies, former Atlantans renewed friendships, recalled the “good old days back in the South," met new people and shared the trials and joys of life in Israel. Under the auspices of the AACI, the Atlanta hometown committee organized the annual picnic. With the guidance of Deana Fein, over seas liaison of the AACI, Betsy Sugarman, Lila Perry and Nancy Sigal, group chairwomen, planned the event. Bob Sigal greeted the crowd. While most attendants were Jerusalemites, some came from Tel Aviv, and even as far as Safed. Along with native Georgians were people who were born in different areas of the United States, and even a few Israelis who had spent some time in Atlanta’s Jewish com munity. Olim were joined by visit ing students and other Atlantans temporarily in Israel. The Atlanta group is one of the more active of the 23 hometown groups organized by the AACI. With Ms. Fein’s assistance, volun teers from all over Israel organize gatherings, publish directories and provide home hospitality for visit ing community groups.
