ALL ABOARD for AJCC’s fourth GALA to be held
at the Old Georgia Railroad Freight Depot. ALL
ABOARD for a ride on the new Georgia Railroad.
ARE YOU RIDING THE TRAIN? Boarding begins
at 7:15 to the sounds of a seven-piece combo. Red carpet
treatment includes light supper, wine and more. Train
entertainment will feature clowns, banjo players, a
juggler and popcorn girl. Surprises galore when you’re
riding the train.
MEETING AT THE DEPOT? The GALA celebra
tion begins at 8:30. Have a drink in the ‘'Salon” with
Faith Lifshen at the piano. Join the train travelers for an
evening of desserts, dancing and entertainment.

Israeli Folk Dance at Zaban
The Israel Program Cen
ter announces that Mrs.
Vivian Green will be con
ducting a spirited workshop
of popular Israeli dances on
Tuesday evenings, for eight
weeks, beginning Nov. 4, 7:30
p.m. at Zaban.
Vivian is a folk dance
specialist who has taught and
performed Israeli dance for many years in Atlanta and
throughout the Southeast. She obtained formal training
in Israel under the supervision of the Folklore Research
Center of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, as well as
at the annual Fred Berk Israeli Folk Dance seminars.
Participants with all levels of experience are welcome
to attend the classes. For more details, contact Vivian at

Jewish Book Month, a worldwide celebration of Jew
ish literature, takes place throughout the world this year
between Nov. 16 and Dec. 16. The Atlanta community
will celebrate Jewish Book Month at the Peachtree
AJCC with a series of wonderful programs, including
something special for every member of the family.
Chaired by Shai and Judy Robkin, this two-day
extravaganza will include featured speakers, entertain
ers, spectacular book displays and book stalls, crafts
activities, and the premiere of a children’s play by our
Center Children’s Acting Troupe.
Opening the festivities at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 22, will be
Yale Storm, a klezmer musician and singer, humorist and
storyteller, who will delight visitors in our Cafe Dizen-
goff. Co-sponsored by Temple Emanu-El, Yale will
amuse and entertain his audience as they enjoy Israeli
food and roam through bookstalls and displays, includ
ing prized photographs taken by Storm on his year-long
journey through eastern Europe.
Charles Silberman, outstanding scholar and world-
renowned lecturer, will close the weekend speaking on
“Jews in America: 1 Have Good News and Bad News.”
Silberman is perhaps the most sought after and widely
read contemporary Jewish author in America today. His
recent book, “A Certain People” has sold millions of
copies. Silberman is the Sidney Janus Memorial lecturer,
brought to Atlanta by Mrs. Lean Janus and family and
the Ahavath Achim Synagogue. Be sure to bring your
own copy of one of Silberman’s books to be auto
graphed—or purchase one in our Book Shuk!
