A con gregational kiddush will follow. Lee is the son of Joanne and Dorn Swerdlin. He is the grand son of Bessie Lee Harris and the late Louis Harris, and Aaronette Swerdlin. A congregational kiddush will fol low. Jeremy is the son of Carolyn and Kenneth Berk. He is the grandson of Mrs. Thelma W. Cohen and the late Elias Cohen, and the late Ethel and Melvin C. Berk. Jeremy will share his Bar Mitzva with Igor Alterman of the Soviet Union. Scott is the son of Dr. Alan and Lynn Taranto. He is the grandson of Dr. and Mrs. Morris Taranto of Atlanta, and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Bensinger of Memphis, Tenn. Scott visited the Western Wall with his family, on a recent trip to Israel. A congregational kiddush will fol low. Robyn is the daughter of Deb bie and Ron Cohn. She is the granddaughter of Thelma Cohn of Riveredge, N.J., and Pauline and Sam Friedman of Tamarac, Fla. People In The News Rabbi Ephraim Frankel, prin cipal of the Hebrew Academy of Atlanta, will participate at the ninth annual convention of the Educators Council of America, Nov. 6-9 which will be held in Spring Glen, N.Y. Hundreds of educators from around the country will attend the convention, which will deal with the theme of human rela tions, “Bayn Adam LeHavero: A Torah U’Mada Perspective.” Mikki Abitbol has recently been appointed director of mis sions of the Jewish National Fund. Ms. Abitbol has over 20 years experience in the travel industry. She has worked for the Israel Government Tourism office in New York, served on the board of directors of the American Sephardic Federation and is a co-founder of the Moroccan Jewish Organization with head quarters in New York City. Births Amy and Robert Arogeti of Atlanta announce the birth of a son, James Samuel Arogeti, on Sept. 29. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. James Arogeti, and Mr. and Mrs. Mendel Romm Jr., all of Atlanta. Great-grandmothers are Mrs. Tootsie Romm, Mrs. Regina B. Arogeti and Mrs. Rebecca J. Alhadeff, all of Atlanta. James was named in honor of his grandfather, James Arogeti, and in memory of his great grandfathers, Samuel Pitlick and Joseph Samuel Alhadeff. He was given the Hebrew name Yeshaya. The bris was performed by Dr. Mark Safra. * * * Lynn and Rob Hassett of Atlanta announce the birth of a daughter, Laura Stephanie, on Sept. 4. Grandparents are Jackie and Arthur Kanfer, and Sid Shier, all of Atlanta, and Peggy and Abe Hassett of Franklin, Va. Great- grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Harry Schwartz of Macon, Rae Shier and Fannie Vitner of At lanta, and Mr. and Mrs. Leo Frankel of Miami Beach. * * * Jeannie and Robert Tepper of Atlanta announce the birth of a son, Shane Havi, on Aug. 25. Grandparents are Bernard Kaplan and the late Hilda Kaplan, and Rubin and Selma Tepper, all of Atlanta. Shane was given the Hebrew name Yeshaya Haviv in memory of his great-grandfather, Samuel Schechter, and his grandmother, Hilda Kaplan. The bris was performed by Dr. Mark Safra. Rabbi Arnold •Goodman and Rabbi Marvin Richardson officiated. * * * Sandy Kuttler Sandy Kuttler has been named director of Camp Judaea in Hendersonville, N.C., after serv ing as interim director this past summer. Camp Judaea is sponsored by Hadassah and draws campers from all over the South and mid- Atlantic states. * * * Jane Horowitz Bick, profes sor of advertising and public re lations in the journalism program at Northeastern University, re cently served as a judge for‘‘Re tail Ad Contest-1986” in the New England Newspaper Advertising Executives Association annual competition. resident, judged ads in s« categories. Michael Alon has been ap pointed the new Torah Reader (Baal Koreh) of Congregation B’nai Torah, beginning Saturday, Nov. 1. Alon has been a professional Torah Reader for over 30 years. A native of Jerusalem, he began to read for a synagogue there at age 15. He is a graduate of Yeshiva University Teachers’ Institute in New York City, and attended the Cantorial Training Institute of Yeshiva University. Prior to coming to B’nai Torah, Alon was Torah Reader for 12 years at Ahavath Achim Synagogue. He was also a bar/bat mitzva in structor and a faculty member of the Epstein School. * * * Jacob Marcus Freedman re cently earned the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America. He is a member of Troop #435 in Cobb County. Jacob’s project was the pur chase, preparation and service of meals to the Homeless Couples Shelter sponsored by The Temple. He raised money by organizing a car wash involving fellow Boy Scouts, friends and family. A senior at Wheeler High School, Jacob is a member of The Temple. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Solomon and Mr. and Mrs. Irving Freedman. * * * Atlantans Elsye and Arthur Heyman recently attended the national assembly of ARZA which was held in Chicago. Mr. Heyman was re-elected to the ARZA national board.
