Tieder of Atlanta will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at The Temple. A congregational kiddush will follow. Joel and Michelle are the children of Mrs. Judith Grindle and the late Arnold A. Tieder. Their step-father is D.C. Grindle. They are the grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Tieder of Clearwater, Fla., and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Myron of Myron, Fla. The Bar Mitzva of Jason Heath Jennings of Atlanta will take place at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at Temple Sinai. A congrega tional kiddush will follow. Jason is the son of David and Cheryl Jennings. He is the grand son Mr. and Mrs. Charles And erson of Peoria, Ill., Dr. and Mrs. I.E. Kilbane of Joplin, Mo., and Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Rose- nak of Peoria. Jason will be twinning with Mark Krivopol of Moscow. Charlotte (Lotte) Sachs was called to the Torah as a Bat Mitzva on Friday, Oct. 31, at Kehillat Chaim. Mrs. Sachs read the first portion of Genesis. The event marked the first adult Bat Mitzva held at Kehillat Chaim. She is the editor of the temple newsletter, a member of the sis terhood, and is a member of the board of trustees at Kehillat Chaim. The Bar Mitzva of Samuel Aaron Wineburgh of Marietta will take place at 9 a.m. Satur day, Nov. 22, at Ahavath Achim Synagogue. A congregational kiddush will follow. Samuel is the son of Adele and Michael Wineburgh. He is the grandson of Mrs. Sylvia Caplan of Atlanta, and the late Hyman Caplan, and Mrs. Edith Wineburgh of Niagara Falls, N.Y., and the late Samuel J. Wineburgh. Samuel will share his Bar Mitzva with Leonid Lisenker of the U.S.S.R. People Janice Nodvin was recently named the first recipient of the R. Dwain Blackston Award for contributions exemplifying the dedication and service on behalf of individuals with Down’s syn drome. Mrs. Nodvin was cited for contributions as conference chairpersons at three annual statewide conferences on handi capping conditions sponsored by the Down’s Syndrome Association of Atlanta. She has served two terms as president of the Down’s Syndrome Association, is a sup porting parent of Parent-To- Parent of Georgia Inc., and was appointed by the DeKalbCounty Board of Commission to the DeKalb Council of Disabilities. The Bat Mitzva of Juliet Sink of Atlanta will take place at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at Con gregation Etz Chaim. A congre gational kiddush will follow. Juliet is the daughter of Rich ard and Karen Friedman. She is the granddaughter of Leonard and Eleanor Eldridge of South- bury, Conn., and the late Irving and Norma Friedman of River- dale, N.Y. The Bar Mitzva of Brian Scott Shuman of Greensboro, N.C., will take place at 10 a.m. Satur day, Nov. 15, at Beth David Syn agogue in Greensboro. Brian is the son of Joyce and Bob Shuman. He is the grandson of Gloria and Bernard Robinson of Greensboro, and Yetta and Carl Shuman of Atlanta. Brian will be sharing his Bar Mitzva with Alexander Berger of Leningrad, U.S.S.R. The Bar Mitzva of Scott Jason Fischbach of Atlanta will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at Temple Sinai. A congrega tional kidush will follow. Scott is the son of Jane and Robert Fischbach. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Pressman of Atlanta, and Mrs. Harry Fischbach of New York City, and the late Harry Fischbach. Scott is sharing his Bar Mitzva with Mark Yuzefovich of Mos cow, U.S.S.R. Mark is the son of Leonid and Ekaterina Yuzefovich. The Bat Mitzva of Helane Dore Levy of Atlanta will take place at 10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, at Congregation Shearith Israel. Helane is the daughter of Anita and Philip Levy. She is the grand daughter of Mrs. Florence Schul- man of Atlanta, and the late Charles Schulman, and Mrs. Mary Levy of Tampa, Fla., and the late Victor Levy. Helane will be sharing her Bat Mitzva with Olga Ioffe of the Soviet Union. The Bar Mitzva of Daniel Zachary Schwartz of Atlanta will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at Temple Emanu-El. A congregational kiddush will fol low. Daniel is the son of Barbara and Lee Schwartz. He is the grandson of the late Nathan and Zenda Schwartz of Cleveland, Ohio, and the late Sidney and Beatrice Schaeffer of Palm Beach, Fla. In The News She is a vice president of Ein Karem Hadassah and is a past vice president of the board of Congregation B’nai Torah. Mrs. Nodvin and her husband Joe have four children. * * * Isadore Karpf of Savannah, a past president of the JEA, has been named chairman of the com- mittee to plan for the cele bration of the 75th anniversary of the JEA, through a series of special programs in 1986-87. * * * Rabbi James Cohn of the Temple of Israel in Greenville, S.C., gave the invocation and benediction at the Clemson Uni versity Commencement exercise this past summer. The event marked the first time that a rabbi was the presid ing clergyman for a graduation at the university. ♦ * * Howard Pousner, son of Rose and Seymour Pousner of Atlanta, has accepted the position of asso ciate editor of Florida, the Sun day magazine of the Orlando Sentinel. Pousner has been a news and features writer and editor with T he Atlanta Journal-Constitution for the past seven years. * * * Writer and historian Norman Shavin has been named by Mayor Andrew Young as an historica consultant to the Committee o 150, and Atlanta leadership group named by the mayor to ma e program plans for Atlanta s 15Ut birthday anniversary next year. Shavin is the author of more than a dozen books relating t° Atlanta’s history and other top ics, including “Atlanta: I riump of a People” and “The Worl o Atlanta." h He can currently be heard ea weekday on WGST Radio s Atlanta Minuet,” which he ere ated, researches and writes. * * *
