Joint Meeting
The American Jewish Congress
and the Community Action Com
mittee of Ahavath Achim Syn
agogue are sponsoring a joint
meeting at 8 p.m. Wednesday,
Dec. 3, at Ahavath Achim.
The speaker will be Atlanta
attorney Robert Fierer, who was
instrumental in the release of
Natan (Anatoly) Shcharansky last
February. Fierer will discuss his
“diplomatic adventure” and share
his perceptions of the spy ex
change that included Shcharan
sky.

Birthday parties
The newly organized Ladies
Auxiliary of the Jewish Home
will host the monthly birthday
parties to honor residents cele
brating birthdays. Arlene Kopel-
man is the chairman.
“The Peach Pipes,” a choral
musical group sponsored by Jun
ior League, entertained the Octo
ber residents who were Dr. George
Chait, Fannie Hochberg, Anna
Weinberg, Harry Kalefsky, Ida
Briggin, Harry Raynes and Reu
ben Kohn.
The Atlanta Jewish Commun
ity Center’s Children’s Acting
Troupe will perform “Chana and
Shabbat Dress” at the Nov. 25
birthday party. Honorees will be
Helen Lips, Margaret Blumen-
berg, Harold Meyer, Ida Loen-
thal, Harry Morrison, Mildred
Zimmerman, Israel Merlin, Cal-
lie Herzog, Gertrude Garber, Ann
Rosser, Ray Meyer and Rebie
Gordon.
Ahavath Achim
Ahavath Achim Synagogue
will host the 37th annual Buck-
head Community Thanksgiving
Service at 10:30 a.m. Thursday,
Nov. 27.
Participating churches are New
Hope AME, Northside Drive
Baptist, Northside United Meth
odist and Trinity Presbyterian.
The sermon will be delivered by
the Rev. Allison Williams, senior
minister of Trinity Presbyterian.
Rabbis Arnold Goodman and
Marvin Richardson will partici
pate in the service and the liturgy
will be chanted by Cantor Isaac
Goodfriend and the Ahavath
Achim Choir.
The community is invited to
participate in the celebration of
America’s only non-denomina-
tional religious holiday.

Sisterhood
The Beth Jacob Sisterhood
will hold its annual Silver Tea at
L30p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, at the
synagogue.

Congregation Etz Chaim

B’nai Torah
B’nai Torah Brotherhood will
sponsor an evening at Jerry Far-
ber’s at 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23,

Club 50
The AJCC’s Club 50 will host
its sixth annual New Year’s Eve
Party at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec.
31, at the Peachtree Ballroom.
Music will be provided by Eli
Frisch and The Tempos.
Set-ups, party favors and
“nasherye” will be provided and
hot hors d’oeuvres will be served
throughout the evening. After
midnight, a champagne break
fast will highlight the evening.
Cost to “early birds” who send
in their checks to AJCC before
Dec. 1, is $22.50a person to paid
up AJCC and Social members
and $33.00 for non-members.
After Dec. 1, cost will be $25
and $37.50, respectively.

Adult Services Department
The AJCC Adult Services
Department is soliciting opinions
of current and future services for
men and women 50 and older.
The information collected will be
used to improve existing pro
grams and services and plan
future ones.
Participants in the survey will
be eligible to win a prize from a
random drawing. Prizes include
$20 gift certificates from the Nora
Stahlman Gift Shop, dinner for
two at the Coach & Six, and oth
ers. The grand prize will be a
three-month AJCC/ Health Club
membership (to be used at the
discretion of the winners).
