‘Jacob’s Ladder’
Ada and Sol Shapiro of Charlotte stand in front of “Jacob’s
Ladder.” The art, by Israeli artist Caiman Shemi, was recently
presented to The Foundation for Charlotte Jewish Community
by Mrs. Shapiro at a surprise reception honoring her husband,
who was the first president of the Charlotte Jewish Community
Center. Mrs. Shapiro is the former Ada Witt of Atlanta.
The 5x7 abstract is composed of layers of fabrics and fibers
to create an illusion of an oil painting. Mrs. Shapiro’s gift will
be hung in Gorelick Hall in Shalom Park, Charlotte's new
Center for Jewish activities.
