JNF Gala to spotlight Marvin Hamlisch
Academy Award-winning
composer and performer Marvin
Hamlisch will be the entertainer
for the Jewish National Fund’s
Eighth Annual Gala Dinner
Dance to be held Jan. 10, at the
Westin Peachtree Plaza.
More than 60 people attended
the kick-off dessert party recently
at the home of Nanci and Ron
Eichel. and. according to Donna
Gerson, co-chairman, reacted
with excitement and enthusiasm.
"We've never experienced such
an overwhelmingly positive re
sponse this early.”
Her co-chairman, Cheryl
Kramer, attributed the record
setting head start to “the winning
combination of a great entertainer
and the commitment by JNF to
offer an evening of pure enjoy
ment.” She added, "We evaluated
past events very carefully and
decided to cut back sharply on all
expenses except entertainment
and to give the attendees an even
ing without any speeches. As a
result, we are pleased that a min
imum of 60 percent of the funds
Jeff Foxworthy to entertain
for New Leadership event
Jeff Foxworthy, a bright young
comedian, will provide entertain
ment at the Israel Bonds New
Leadership Brunch to be held on
Sunday morning, Dec. 7.
The brunch will be held at
Winfield’s in the Galleria at 9:30
a.m. The cost w ill be $ 10 a person.
Foxworthy has played in com
edy clubs across America and
has been featured on TV and in
Newsweek magazine as one of
America's up and coming young
comedians. In 1985 he won the
Southeast Regional Laugh Off
competition. He is a native of
Atlanta.

playgrounds in the Galilee as the
project area for this event. All
proceeds from this dinner, which
we hope will exceed $150,000.

the Atlanta Jewish National
Fund. said. “This period is indeed
the highlight of my activity with
the Jewish National Fund. We
have come so far. both organiza
tionally and substantively, since
Rabbi Harry H. Epstein chaired
the first Jewish National Fund
drive for the state of Georgia in
1944. It is truly fantastic to know
that so many of Atlanta's vibrant
young leaders have found in the

In addition to the afforesta
tion that so many are familiar
with, the Jewish National Fund

reclamation, road building, and
the development of infrastructure
for the new settlements.
The cost of attending the 1987
JNF Gala Dinner Dance is $150
a person. In addition to the tax
deductibility, JNF is offering a
$50 a person tree bank redeema
ble in tree certificates by July 15.
1987. “We know," said Mrs. Wil-
ensky, "that by offering $100 per
couple in redeemable trees we
offset the increased ticket price.”

Conference on aging set for Jan.
The American Society on
Aging will sponsor a one-day
program on “Religion, Spiritual
ity and Aging” on Jan. 14 in
Atlanta. The program will be
held in conjunction with ASA’s
Winter Conference on "Every
day Ethics in an Aging Society:
Hard Times, Hard Choices,”
which will take place from Jan.
11-13 at the Westin Peachtree
Plaza.
“Religion. Spirituality and
Aging” will ask the difficult ques
tions: Is the religious community
ageist? Are secular service pro
viders uncomfortable with their
clients’ spirituality?
The one-day program will
examine the importance of reli
gion and spirituality in old age;
the possible interface between
health and human service profes
sionals in aging-related fields and
those in the religious commu
nity; the resources that each
