THE SOUTHERN ISRAELITE December 5, 1986 Page 19 Congregations Sherry Frank to speak at Beth Shalom Sherry Frank, southeast area director of the American Jewish Committee, will speak on anti- Semitism extremism at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1 2. at Congregation Beth Shalom. Mrs. Frank, with more than 20 years of varied community expe rience, has worked extensively in the area of intergroup relations and helped initiate and staff Atlanta’s Black Jewish Coalition. She is a past president of National Council of Jewish Women and completed a four- year term on its national board. Mrs. Frank laid the groundwork for the family outreach center for child abuse in Fulton County. Sherry Frank Additionally, she has co-chaired the writing of a national manual on volunteer roles in immigrant resettlement of Soviet Jews. Mrs. Frank is vice president of the Rabbi Harry hpstein Solomon Schecter School and immediate past chairperson of the Ahavath Achim Synagogue’s Community Action Committee. Recently, Mrs. Frank was appointed to Mayor Young’s Committee of 150 in preparation for Atlanta’s sesquicentennial celebration. I he evening w ill conclude with an Oneg Shabbat. For more information, call 458-04X9. Etz Chaim Beth Jacob Temple Emanu-El Congregation Etz Chaim will hold its Auction '86 at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the syn agogue. A silent auction will begin at 7 p.m. Items to be auctioned include a magnum of Chateau Lafitte Rothschild 1971 red bordeaux, a 1976 Cadillac convertible, two weeks at a Hilton Head condo, an entertainment center, dinner for six at Chastain Park, a kosher dinner for eight, an answering machine, a $100 certificate from Happy Herman’s, Falcons tickets. Tickets, which include dinner, can be pur chased from Brad and Ellen Feldser at 977-7576. Tickets purchased in advance are $5 and will be placed in a special drawing for a $100 gift certificate. To mark the publication of Rabbi Emanuel Feldman’s latest book, “The Biblical Echo,” Con gregation Beth Jacob will hold an author’s reception at the dedi cation of its new library facilities. The reception will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at the synagogue. During the reception. Rabbi Feldman w ill give the background of the book and read excerpts. Am HaSefer donors who made the new library possible will also be honored. “The Biblical Echo: Reflections on Bible, Jews and Judaism” is a collection of essays, reviews, meditations and reflections. It is on sale at the Beth Jacob book store and will soon be available at local bookstores. Temple Emanu-El will hold a special family Shabbat every tw o months. The first of these servi ces was held Nov. 14. Children celebrating birthdays during the tw'o-month period will be called to the pulpit. Ahavath Achim Ahava Ahava, the senior adult group sponsored by Ahavath Achim Synagogue, will meet at noon Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the synagogue. The program will be a Hanuka party with entertainment by the Epstein School first graders. Cost of lunch is $2.50 a person. Reservations can be made by calling the office at 355-5222. Transportation can be provided. Kehillat Chaim Deadline for all commu nity copy—Organizations, Congregations, Bar I Bat Mitzvas, People in the New s, Births and Weddings and Engagements—is noon Friday. Kehillat Chaim Congregation will sponsor a comedy night at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8 at The Punch Line, 280 Hilderbrand Drive, featuring comedian Den nis Wolfberg. Proceeds will bene fit the synagogue.
