Ed ward Kennedy (D-Mass.) arrived in Israel Tuesday with assuran ces that the international furor over United States shipments of arms to Iran with Israel’s help has not harmed U.S.-Israel re lations. “Recent events over Iran not withstanding, U.S.-Israel friend ship is strong, solid and endur ing. America looks to Israel as our oldest, closest friend in the region in a w orld of change and doubts,” Kennedy told reporters at Ben-Gurion Airport. The senator declined to reply to specific questions about the arms sale to Iran and the diver sion of the proceeds to the con tras. the Reagan administration- backed rebels trying to overthrow the Sandinista government in Nicaragua. Waldheim honor stuns BBI W'ASHINGTON B’nai B’rith International said it was stunned that the United Nations office in Vienna has invited Austrian President Kurt Waldheim to be guest of honor at a ceremony Jan. 30 commemorating Trygve Lie, the first secre tary-general of the U.N. Seymour D. Reich.
