Swim Club
BLACK ON BLACK Film Series „ Elects Officers

November 19th - December
10th, the High Museum of Art
presents “Black on Black: 1976-
1982," a film series featuring the
works of contemporary Black
filmmakers.
Organized by the St. Louis Art
Museum, “Black on Black"
begins its nationwide tour here
in Atlanta. Only $1.50 for
students with IDs, this series
offers diverse perspectives of the
Black experience and a variety of
Balck images.
On Friday, November 19th at 8
pm, "Black on Black” presents
"Four Women” an experimental
dance film and “Killer of Sheep,"
a drama about a man whose
profession stands at odds with his
values.
On Saturday, November 20th
at 8 pm the series presents.
“Pass/Fail” exploring the
struggle of a young filmmaker,
“Charles White: Drawings from
Life," "Syvilla: They Dance to
Her Drum,” a documentary
honoring Black dance pioneer
Syvilla Fort, and “Homecom
ing,” a drama portraying the
reunion of a father and son.
“Radio” explores the teenage
trend of carrying a “box” or large
radio on Friday, December 3rd at
8 pm, along with “A Different
Image” which deals with a man
and woman who try to sustain a
platonic relationship.
The final program, December
10th at 8 pm, features “For
Colored Men Who’ve Had
Enufl”, “Invisible,” “Flesh,
Metal, Wood,” “George’s
Debut,” “The Ceremony,”
about a marriage which begins to
fall apart on the wedding day,
“The Calling” following a Black
man into a monastaryand“Tryp-
tich” an actor’s reflection on his
past. Each film in this final
program is under 30 minutes.
“Black on Black” will be
presented at the Hill Auditorium
at the High Museum, 1280
Peachtree Street, NE.

Black U.S.A. title, must reign as
Fellowships Offered
Postdoctoral fellowships have
long been a part of research and
scholarship in the United States.
They provide opportunities for
continued education and ex
perience in research, often in
close association with a dis
tinguished mentor or colleague.
Such appointments, usually
lasting a year, provide a stimulus
to the career of the younger
scholar and may assist the es
tablished investigator to effect a
desired change of direction of
research.
The Postdoctoral Fellowships
for Minorities Program will iden
tify persons of high ability who
are members of minority groups
that have been traditionally
under - represented among the
nation’s behavioral and social
scientists, scholars in the
humanities, engineers,
mathematicians, physical scien
tists, and life scientists will make
it possible for them to engage in
postdoctoral research and
scholarship free from in
terference form their normal
duties. In sponsoring this
fellowship program, the Ford
Foundation wishes to help
young teacher - scholars either
preparing for or already engaged
in college or university teaching
and research to achieve greater
recognition in their respective
fields and to acquire the
professional associations that
will make them more effective
and productive in academic
employment. In addition, the
Ford Foundation seeks to iden
tify and support a limited

December of this year in Miami,

The Swim Club was chartered
by SGA this year, and will be
sponsoring various service pro
jects and water ballet shows
throughout the season.
The date for the first water
ballet show was tentatively set
for November 10th. The details
will be posted at a convenient
time. So be watching the bulletin
boards.
Practice swims will be held
every Monday and Thursday
from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at
poolside in Read Hall. For

will be awarded in 1983 in a
national compeititon conducted
by the National Research Coun
cil on behalf of theFord Founda
tion. The awards will be made to
those individuals who show
greatest promise of future
achievement in academic
research and scholarship in
higher education. Major dis
ciplines included are the
Biological Sciences, Physical
Sciences, Mathematics,
Engineering Sciences, Social
Sciences, and the Humanities.

Chekhov In Yalta
The pioneers of acting as we
know it today will act out their
past in a delightful new comedy
called CHEKHOV IN YALTA,
opening October 20th at the
Alliance Theatre.
Critically acclaimed in
previous productions at the
Mark Taper Forum in Los
Angeles and at the Cleveland
Playhouse, CHEKHOV IN
YALTA, by John Driver and
Jeffrey Haddow, was named by
the American Theatre Critics
Association as the Best Play
produced in the American
regional theater last year. The
Los Angeles Times called it
"Charming and clever. A tourde
force." Variety praised it as "A
Chekhovian delight. Intelligent
and entertaining.” Drama -
Logue raved “Superlatives are in
order. A fascinating comedy,”
and the Hollywood Reporter
added, "Hilarious. Lively as a sea
breeze.”
New York actor Alan Mixon
will play the title role. A Georgia
native, Mr. Mixon’s first major
role was in the world premiere of
Tennessee Williams' SWEET
BIRD OF YOUTH. His twenty
plus New York productions
include MOURNING BECOMES
ELECTRA, opposite Colleein
Dewhurst, DESIRE UNDER THE
ELMS with George C. Scott and
Miss Dewhurst, and the
Broadway hit, THE RUNNER
STUMBLES. Chekhov credits
include Constantine in THE
SEAGULL and Astrov in UNCLE
VANYA, and at the Alliance he
appeared in THE SHADOW BOX
and THE LITTLE FOXES. Soap
opera fans will recognize Mr.
Mixon from “Love of Life” and
“One Life To Live.”
CHEKHOV IN YALTA opens at
the AllianceTheatre on Wednes
day, October 20th, and runs
through November 21st. Perfor
mances are at 8 p.m. Tuesday
through Saturday, and on Sun
day, October 24th and 31st, and
November 14th, with matinees at
2:30 p.m. on Saturday,
November 6th, and on Sunday,
October 24th and 31st, and
November 7th.
Tickets are $7.50 and $12.00
($11.00 and $14.00 on Friday and
Saturday night). Specially priced
preview performances ($5.00
and $6.00) are at 8 p.m. on
Saturday, October 16th, Sunday,
October 17th, and Tuesday,
